Miss Pellin's Post
February 29th to March 4th

Kindness Week will be celebrated at Prairieview from 2/29/16 to 3/4/16. Students will be performing random acts of kindness!

We will not have school on Friday, March 4th due to an Institute Day. Please plan accordingly.

The Twenty-seventh Week at School:

Science: We will focus on social studies this week.

Social Studies: We will continue the study of chapter 3 on culture.   We will also continue our study of Chicago! Students will learn about Chicago's early history.  They will also learn about lakes and rivers.

Math:  We continue unit 5 on geometry and measurement. We will continue studying unit 5, module 2 on polygons and symmetry.  Students will have a divide by 9 timed test on Tuesday, March 1st.  They will have two and a half minutes to complete 26 problems.   Students who pass on Tuesday, March 1st will receive the full amount of points (13/13).  If students don't pass the test on the first day, they will take the test the next day and receive 12/13 if they pass.  Students will continue taking the test each day until they pass and one point will be taken off each day.

ELA: To culminate our ELA and Social Science Units on Storytelling: Culture and Traditions, the students will take part in an independent study project that incorporates not only our textual learning, but also their technology and presentation skills. Each student will be asked to select a country that they have family ancestry or a personal connection. Please help your child with this. They are to come to school on Wednesday with the country they want to research. Please look for the Culture Day Presentation Guidelines that will be coming home Monday. Thank you for your help!

The February Reading Log will be due on Tuesday, March 1st.

Spelling:  Students will receive a new spelling list and should complete six activities using the spelling menu.  The test will be on Friday, March 11th.  The activities will also be due on Friday, March 11th.
