April 28th to May 2nd 




Please join us for our spring Open House on Thursday, May 1st from 6:30 - 8:00.  Third grade's Open House theme is Chicago, so come wearing your favorite Chicago team's apparel!  There will also be a book fair and an ice cream social.  I look forward to seeing each of you! 

The Thirty-Second Week at School::
Science: There will be a chapter 10 test on Thursday, May 1st.  Students can keep their textbooks at home until the day of the test.  

Social Studies: Our class has been "hired" by a local travel agency in need of Chicago brochures. Each student will continue designing a brochure which will attract visitors to Chicago. They are using their packets and books to choose topics to include in their brochure. 

Spelling: 
There will not be spelling this week.  We will work on reading poems fluently.  

Reading:  We will read different poems.  While reading poems students will look for similes, metaphors, personification, idioms, cliches, hyperbole, and alliteration.  There will be a poetry vocabulary test on Wednesday, April 30th.  

English: We will continue a friendly letter writing unit.  Students will  work on writing a letter to their second grade pen pal.  

Math:  We will continue the study of chapter 14 on geometry.  Students who have not passed the mixed multiplication test should continue to practice.  They need to complete 40 problems in 4 minutes.   

Things to Remember: 
Wednesday 4/30: There will be a poetry vocabulary test. 
Thursday 5/1: There is a chapter 10 science test.  It is Open House!

April 21st to April 25th



  

Earth Day is on Monday, April 22nd!  We will be celebrating Earth Day at Prairieview on Tuesday, April 22nd.  Students can wear an Earth Day shirt or the color green!

Open House:  It will take place from 6:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m on Thursday, May 1st.  Third grade's Open House theme is Chicago, so come wearing your favorite Chicago team's apparel!  I look forward to seeing each of you! 


The Thirty-First Week at School::
Science: We will finish the study of chapter 10.  Look for a study guide to come home.  Students will be tested in the week of April 28th.  Then we will begin Chapter 14.  

Social Studies: O

Monday:  Pretest on lesson 23
Homework - Cursive worksheet
Tuesday:  Write words 5 times each
Wednesday: Write spelling sentences
Friday:  Post test on lesson 23

English: There will be a unit 5 test on Wednesday, April 23rd.  Then we will begin a friendly letter writing unit.  Students will learn about the parts of a letter.  Then students will write a letter to their second grade pen pal.

There will be a chapter 9 test on Tuesday, April 22nd.  Then we will begin the study of geometry.  Students should also review their multiplication facts (1-10).  There will be a mixed multiplication test on Friday, April 25th.  Students will need to complete 40 problems in 4 minutes.

Tuesday 4/22:
 There will be a chapter 9 math test.  
Students should wear green for Earth Day!
Wednesday 4/23: There will be an English test.  
Friday 4/25: There will be a spelling test and a mixed multiplication test.


Thursday 5/1: It is Open House from 6:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.

April 14th to April 18th

Remember that there will be an early dismissal at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 17th. Also, there will not be school on Friday, April 18th.  Please plan accordingly.  

The Thirtieth Week at School:
Science: 
As we continue to explore the planets in our solar system, students will be gathering information about each to display in a stand-up foldable project.



Social Studies:  There will be a Chicago Test III on Monday, April 14th.  Also, o
ur class has been "hired" by a local travel agency in need of Chicago brochures. Each student will be designing a brochure which will attract visitors to Chicago. They are using their packets and books to choose topics to include in their brochure. 

Spelling: There will not be spelling due to the shortened week.  

Reading:  The fictional story which students read this past week, Two Days in May, was about white tail deer who were in a city.  This week students will research white tail deer.  


English: We will continue working in unit 5 on book titles,  introductory words,  and quotations.    


Math: This week we will finish the study of chapter 9 on Properties and Equations.  Look for a study guide to go home.  There will be a chapter 9 test in the week of April 21st.  Students should also review their multiplication facts (1-10).  There will be a mixed multiplication test on Friday, April 25th.  Students will need to complete 40 problems in 4 minutes.

Monday  4/14:  There will a Chicago Test III.

Thursday 4/17: Students will be dismissed at 11:00 a.m. 
Friday 4/18: There will not be school.
