Miss Pellin's Post 
May 30th to June 3rd


There will be no school on Monday, May 30th.  It is Memorial Day!  Please plan accordingly.

Please check for any textbooks which may have been left at home.  They need to be returned as soon as possible.  Thank you!

Friday, May 27th will be the last day of reading and math.  I had a wonderful year with both classes!

The Nineteenth Week of 2011 at School:

Science: Students will learn about different tools that are used in science experiments.  Students will also learn about the scientific method. 

Social Studies: We will study maps.  Students will learn about map scales and symbols.

Spelling:  We have completed all of the spelling tests for the year.  There will not be a new list this week.

Reading: We will continue our nonfiction study on animals while reviewing the reading strategies taught throughout the year.

English: Students should turn in their expository final draft on Tuesday, May 31st.  We will then study persuasive writing.

Math:  We will work on word problems which will review concepts that have been taught throughout the year. 


Things to Remember:
Monday 5/30:  There is no school.  It is Memorial Day!
Tuesday 5/31:  The expository final draft is due.

Miss Pellin's Post 
May 23rd to May 27th


Students will go bowling on Wednesday, May 25th.  They should bring a sack lunch.

The Eighteenth Week of 2011 at School:
Science: We will finish our unit on heat, light, and sound (chapter 14).  Students will have a chapter 14 test on Friday, May 27th.  They will receive a study guide on Monday, May 23rd. 

Social Studies: We will finish the study of hemispheres.  Students will have a hemisphere quiz on Thursday, May 26th.   

Spelling:  Lesson 26 covers more commonly misspelled words. All homework is due on Friday, May 27th when we will also have the final test.


Reading: Students are creating their own "Jackdaw" on a book of their choice. This will require them to gather objects which will help others guess what the plot of their story is.  They will also need to write a summary on their story.  Students will present their "Jackdaw" to the class.  Then we will begin a nonfiction study. 

English: This week students will finish their expository paper.  There will be a Daily Oral Language (D.O.L.) Quiz on Thursday, May 26th.  Students have already received a study guide.

Math:  We will finish the study of chapter 24 on dividing larger numbers.  There will be a chapter 24 test on Wednesday, May 25th.  We will have a division by 10 test on Friday, May 27th. 



Things to Remember:
Wednesday 5/25:  There will be a math test.  Students will go bowling.
Thursday 5/26:  There will be a hemisphere quiz.
Friday 5/27: There will be a spelling test and a science test.  There will also be a division test.

May 16th to May 20th
Don’t forget to sign up for the 2 mile Walk Day on Tuesday, May 24th at Prairieview School. All proceeds from the event will go to the American Red Cross to help the victims of the earthquake in Japan. There will also be a raffle to help raise money for the cause, and any donations would be appreciated. (gift cards, sport items, games, services, small goodies). The Seventeenth Week of 2011 at School:

English: This week students will continue to work on an expository paper.  There will be a Daily Oral Language (D.O.L.) Quiz on Friday, May 20th.  Students have already received a study guide.

May 9th to May 13th

 


My reading class will have a Magic Show on Tuesday, May 10th from 8:20-9:20.

Students will be dismissed at 11:05 a.m. on Friday, May 13th.  Please plan accordingly.

The Sixteenth Week of 2011 at School:
Science: We will continue the study of energy in chapter 12.  We will finish our study of lesson 3 on the importance of energy.  Look for a study guide to come home.  There will be a chapter 13 test on Friday, May 13th.  Students will receive a study guide on Monday, May 9th. 

Social Studies: We have finished the study of chapter 9.  There will be a test on Wednesday, May 11th.  Students have already received a study guide.  We will then study hemispheres. 

Spelling:  Students will take pretest 24 on Monday, May 9th.  Students will take the post-test on Friday, May 13th.


Reading: We will finish our study of magic!  Students will be performing their magic trick for our class magic show on May 10th from 8:20-9:20.  If you would like to join us for the magic show, please email me at mpellin@ccsd66.org.

English: This week we will study expository writing.  Students will work on writing another expository paper.

Math:  We will continue the study of chapter 24 on dividing larger numbers.  There will not be math class on Friday, May 13th due to our early dismissal.  Therefore, we will have a division by 8 test on Thursday, May 12th.
