February 3rd to February 7th



On Friday, February 14th we will celebrate Valentine's Day. If students choose to pass out Valentine's Day cards, they should get a card for everyone in the class.  There are 18 students in the class. 

Six Flags’ Read to Succeed logs are due on Monday, February 3.

The Twenty-second Week at School:
Science: We will finish the study of energy in chapter 13.  There will be a test on Wednesday, February 5th.  Then we will begin the study of space in chapter 10.

Social Studies:  We will continue the study of chapter 3 on customs and immigration.  Students will learn about Ellis Island.  Look for a study guide to come home this week.  There will be a test in the week of February 10th.

Math:  We will continue studying chapter 8 which focuses on multiply/divide by 6, 7, 8, 9, 11 and 12.  There will be a multiply and divide by 6 test on Monday, February 3rd.    

Spelling: 
Monday:  Pretest on lesson 17
Homework -  Cursive worksheet
Tuesday:  Homework - Write words 5 times each
Wednesday: Homework - Write each word in a sentence.
Friday:  Post test on lesson 17

Reading:   We will continue a biography unit.  Then students will  pick a biography book to read.  While reading their biography book, they will be picking out juicy details about their person.  January Reading Logs are due on Monday, February 3rd.

English: Students will continue writing an autobiography. 




Things to Remember:
Monday 2/3:  There will be a multiply and divide by 6 test.  January Reading Logs are due.
Wednesday 2/5:  There will be a chapter 12 science test.
Friday 2/7:  There will be a spelling test.

January 27th to January 31st



Six Flags’ Read to Succeed logs are due on Monday, February 3.

Spelling Bee:  We will have a Spelling Bee in our classroom on Wednesday, January 29th.  You will find a list of spelling words that will be used for the spelling bee in your child's binder.  The winner and runner-up will compete against the winners in the other third grade classrooms on January 30th.  


The Twenty-first Week at School:
Science: We will finish the study of energy in chapter 13.  Look for a study guide to come home this week.  There will be a test on Wednesday, February 5th.  

Social Studies:  The students did a great job on their Culture Day projects!  We will continue the study of chapter 3 on customs and immigration.  Students will learn about Ellis Island.  

Math:  There will be a chapter 7 test on Thursday, January 30th.  Then we will begin chapter 8 which focuses on multiply/divide by 6, 7, 8, 9, 11 and 12.  There will be a multiply and divide by 6 test on Monday, February 3rd.    

Spelling: 
Students will not have a spelling test, due to the shortened week. 

Reading:   We will begin a biography unit.  As a class we will read several biographies and practice finding interesting facts about each person.  Then students will  pick a biography book to read.  While reading their biography book, they will be picking out juicy details about their person.  

English: Students will write an autobiography. 


Things to Remember:
Wednesday 1/29:  Our class will have a Spelling Bee.
Thursday 1/30:  There will be a chapter 7 math test.

Monday 2/3:  There will be a multiply and divide by 6 test.  
Wednesday 2/5:  There will be a chapter 12 science test.

January 20th to January 24th




Remember that on Monday, January 20th there will not be school due to Martin Luther King's birthday.  Please plan accordingly.

Science: We will continue the study of energy in chapter 13.  We will finish lesson 2 on using energy and then move on to lesson 3 on why energy is important.  

Social Studies:  We will continue the study of chapter 3 on customs and immigration.  Also, we will be celebrating Culture Day on Wednesday, January 22nd and Thursday, January 23rd.  Each student should be prepared to share something about his or her cultural heritage with the class and should have a visual aide.  

Math:  We will continue chapter 7 on Multiplication and Division.  This chapter focuses on multiply/divide by 3, 4, 0, and 1.  There will be a multiply and divide by 4 test on Thursday, January 23rd.    

Spelling: 
Monday:  Pretest on lesson 16
Homework -  Cursive worksheet
Tuesday:  Homework - Write words 5 times each
Wednesday: Homework - Write each word in a sentence.
Thursday:  Post test on lesson 16

Reading:   We will continue literature circles.  Students were given good fit books and are practicing various reading strategies.

English: We will finish the study of adjectives and adverbs in unit 4.  Students were given a study guide today, Friday, January 17th.  They should fill out their study guide and bring it back to school on Thursday, January 23rd.  The unit 4 test will be on Friday, January 24th.  


Things to Remember:

Thursday 1/23:   It is Culture Day!  There will be a multiply and divide by 4 test.

January 13th to January 17th
Remember that on Monday, January 20th there will not be school due to Martin Luther King's birthday.    Also, there will be an early dismissal at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, January 15th.  Please plan accordingly.  

Our class will take their reading MAP test on Tuesday, January 14th.  Please talk to your child about trying their best! Also make sure they eat a good breakfast and get plenty of sleep.  Thank you!

The Nineteenth Week at School:
Science: We will continue the study of energy in chapter 13.  We will finish lesson 1 on potential and kinetic energy and then move on to lesson 2.  

Social Studies:  We will continue the study of chapter 3 on customs and immigration.  Also, we will be celebrating Culture Day on Wednesday, January 22nd and Thursday, January 23rd.  Each student should be prepared to share something about his or her cultural heritage with the class and should have a visual aide.  Please take a look at the Culture Day packet that was sent home on Wednesday, January 8th.  The Culture Day planning sheet is due on Monday, January 13th.  

Math:  We will continue chapter 7 on Multiplication and Division.  This chapter focuses on multiply/divide by 3, 4, 0, and 1.  There will be a multiply and divide by 3 test on Thursday, January 16th.  I had to change the test date again due to changes in MAP testing days and the early dismissal.  We will not have math on Tuesday, January 14th and will have shortened math on Wednesday, January 15th.
