May 1st to May 5th

It was wonderful to see you at Open House!  It was so much fun watching the students show off their projects! Thank you for coming!
The Thirty-Sixth Week at School:
Science: We will continue the study of ecosystems in chapter 4. Students will read and learn about the parts of an ecosystem, about different types of ecosystems and how they support plant and animal life.

Social Studies: We will continue the study of Chicago. Students will read about transportation and museums!

Spelling:  Students will receive a new spelling list and 3 activities sheet. The 3 activities will be due on Friday, May 12th.  They will take their test on Friday, May 12th, as well. 


ELA: We will begin writing letters to our second grade pen pals! We will continue reading The One and Only Ivan. While reading The One and Only Ivan, students will working on many different reading skills. April Reading Logs are due on Monday, May 1st. May Reading Logs will go home on Monday. Students will take the Reading MAP test on Tuesday, May 9thPlease make sure students get a good night sleep and eat breakfast!

Math:   We will continue the study of unit 7 on Patterns and Problems. We will work on Unit 7, module 1 which focuses on number and shape patterns. Module 2 is titled Expressions and Equations. Module 3 and Module 4 focus on Standard Algorithm for Multiplication. Students will take the Math MAP test on Monday, May 8th. Please make sure students get a good night sleep and eat breakfast.

 



Things to Remember: 
Monday 5/1:  April Reading Log is due.  

Monday 5/8: There will be the Math MAP test.
Tuesday 5/9: There will be the Reading MAP test.
Thursday 5/11: We will go to Brookfield Zoo.

April 24th to April 28th

Please join us for our spring Open House on Thursday, April 27th from 6:30 - 8:00.  Third grade's Open House themes are space and Chicago, so come wearing your favorite Chicago team's apparel!  There will also be a book fair.  I look forward to seeing each of you! 

Today marks the halfway point of the trimester. Please check your child's grades.

Zoo Field Trip: As enrichment for our ELA unit on The One and Only Ivan and an upcoming unit in science on ecosystems, we will go to Brookfield Zoo on May 11th! Please turn in permission slips by Friday, April 28th.

The Thirty-fifth Week at School:
Science: At the end of this week, we will begin studying ecosystems in chapter 4.

Social Studies: We will continue reading about Chicago. Students will finish making a brochure on a place in Chicago of their choice such as the Shedd Aquarium or Field Museum. They will also learn more about how Chicago is multicultural and about many of the ethnic neighborhoods.  

Math:  We will finish unit 6 on Multiplication & Division, Data, & Fractions.  The unit 6 study guide is due on Tuesday, April 25th. The unit 6 test is on Wednes
day, April 26th. Then we will begin unit 7 on Reviewing & Extending Fractions, Decimals & Multi-Digit Multiplication. 

Spelling: Students have received their spelling list. The 3 activities will be due on Friday, April 28th. They will also have their spelling test on Friday, April 28th.

ELA: 
We will continue our third unit titled, Stand Up for What You Believe In! We finished reading The One and Only Ivan! This week students will find character traits along with text evidence. We will continue our Daily 5 program.

Tuesday 4/25: Math Unit 6 Study Guides are due.
Wednesday 4/26: There will be a Math Unit 6 Test.
Thursday 4/27: It is Prairieview's Open House and Book Fair!

April 10th to April 14th

Earth Day is on Saturday, April 22nd!  We will be celebrating Earth Day on Friday, April 21st.  Students can wear an Earth Day shirt or the color green!

There will not be school on Friday, April 14th or Monday, April 17th. Please plan accordingly. 

Twitter: 3rd grade has recently set up a twitter account to share what we are doing in the classroom! We are still figuring it all out, but I wanted to share our name with you: @PV3rdGradeRocks. Our class has posts from this past week. Feel free to follow us.

Science: This week we will focus on social studies.

April 10th to April 14th




This week we will continue PARCC testing. We have completed the Math PARCC tests and will now complete the 3 ELA PARCC tests. Please make sure your child gets a good night's sleep, a healthy breakfast, and a good snack! Chromebooks need to be fully charged every night and ear phones should be brought to school daily! Thank you!

There will not be school on Friday, April 14th or Monday, April 17th. Please plan accordingly.

The Thirty-First Week at School: 
Social Studies: This week students will take the Chicago II Quiz on Wednesday, April 12th. They have received a study guide. The answers to each of the questions on the study guide are in the students' Chicago packets. 

Science: Students will present their planet facts. They will also write postcards to friends and family about visiting a planet of their choice. 

Math:  We will continue Unit 6, module 3 which focuses on 
Line Plots, Fractions & Division.  Students will continue to study the median, mode, and range of line plots. There will only be 2 days of math class this week due to PARCC testing.

Spelling: Students have already received a spelling list. The 3 activities will be due on Thursday, April 13th. They will also have their spelling test on Thursday, April 13th. There is no school Friday, April 14th.

ELA: 
We will continue our third and final unit titled, Stand Up for What You Believe In! The students are really enjoying The One and Only Ivan! We will continue our Daily 5 program. Please make sure students are reading 20 minutes a night in order to work on the April reading logs. 

Things to Remember: 
Monday 4/10 - Wednesday 4/12: There is ELA PARCC Testing.
Wednesday 4/12: Students will take Chicago Quiz II.
Thursday 4/13: There will be a spelling test and the 3 activities are due.
Friday 4/14: There will be no school.
