April 2nd to April 6th

Have a wonderful Spring Break!  School will resume on Tuesday, April 3rd.

There will be PARCC testing April 9th to April 19th. We will be testing Math the first week and ELA the following week. Please make sure your child gets a good night's sleep, a healthy breakfast, and a good snack! Chromebooks need to be fully charged every night and ear phones should be brought to school daily! Please check with your child about whether they have headphones at school.

We had a great time at the Shedd Aquarium! Thank you to our parent volunteers!



The Upcoming Week at School: 
Social Science: This week students study the Chicago Fire. They will make a Chicago Fire flip book and write a story about the Chicago Fire from Cow O'Leary's point of view!

Math:  We will continue unit 6 on Multiplication & Division, Data, & Fractions.  We will study Unit 6, module 2 which reviews area and perimeter
.  

Spelling: In lieu of spelling, we will continue our study of prefixes and suffixes. Students will have a prefix and suffix quiz on Friday, April 5th. They can use their packet to study.

ELA: 
We will continue our third and final unit titled, Stand Up for What You Believe In! The students are really enjoying The One and Only Ivan! We will also continue our Daily 5 program. The March reading log will be due on Tuesday, April 3rd.

Things to Remember: 
Tuesday 4/3: The March reading log is due.
Friday 4/6: There will be a prefix/suffix test. 


Monday 4/9 - Thursday 4/12: There is Math PARCC Testing.
Monday 4/16 - Thursday 4/19 There is ELA PARCC Testing.

March 19th to March 23rd 

Happy Saint Patrick's Day! Did you know that the Irish Society of Boston organized the first parade in the colonies on March 17th, 1737?

I enjoyed seeing the students' creative Leprechaun traps! Their hard work really showed! 


On Thursday, March 22nd, the third grade will be visiting the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago! Students should bring a sack lunch that is completely disposable. They should also wear comfortable shoes and dress appropriately for the weather.



The Upcoming Week at School:
Reading: This week students will continue reading The One and Only Ivan while working on various reading strategies. We will also continue the study of pronouns, contractions, and the correct use of there, their, and they're. 

Students should continue reading for 20 minutes each night!

Spelling: In lieu of spelling this week and the week we get back from break, students will be studying prefixes, base words, and suffixes. There will be a prefix and suffix test on Friday, April 13th

Math:   We will continue the study of unit 6 on multiplication, division, data, and fractions.  We will continue to focus on module one, multiplication and division strategies. 

Social Science: We will continue the unit on Chicago! There will be a Chicago Test I on Wednesday, March 21st. Students were given a study guide that they can complete at home if they choose. They should use their Chicago packet to fill out the study guide. They may use the study guide when completing the test.

Things to Remember:
Wednesday 3/21: There is a Chicago Test I.
Thursday 3/22: We are going to the Shedd Aquarium! 
Monday 4/2-Monday 4/9: There is no school due to Spring Break.

March 12th through March 16th

Look for a letter that was sent home today about Leprechaun traps! Leprechaun traps are due on Thursday, March 15th. Students should fill out the Leprechaun planning page in Google Classroom by March 15th. I will forward to seeing the student traps!

Spring pictures have gone home. Payments or unwanted pictures should be returned as soon as possible.

The Upcoming Week at School:
Reading: This week students will begin reading The One and Only Ivan while working on various reading strategies. They will also continue to study nonfiction text structure. In addition, they will subject pronouns and object pronouns. 

Students should continue reading for 20 minutes each night!

Spelling:  Students already have received a spelling list and should complete three activities using the spelling menu.  The test will be on Friday, March 16th.  The activities will also be due on Friday, March 16th. 

Math:   We will continue the study of unit 6 on multiplication, division, data, and fractions.  We will focus on module one, multiplication and division strategies. 

Social Science: We will continue the unit on Chicago! Students will learn about the founding of Chicago and the railroads. There will be a Chicago Test I in the week of March 19th. Look for a study guide to come home. 

Things to Remember:
Thursday 3/15: Students should have completed their Leprechaun planning sheet in Google Classroom and should bring their Leprechaun traps to school. 
Friday 3/16: There will be a spelling test and the three activities are due.

March 5th through March 9th

Trimester 2 ended on Thursday, March 1st. Teachers are still working on finalizing grades. You will be emailed when grades are completed next week. 

Spring pictures have gone home. Payments or unwanted pictures are due back by next Friday (3/9).

The third grade students will go on a field trip to the Shedd Aquarium on Thursday, March 22nd! If your child has not already turned in their permission slip, they should do so by Friday, March 9th

The Upcoming Week at School:
Reading: This week students will continue to work on various reading strategies while reading good fit nonfiction text.

Students should have turned in their February reading logs. They have received a March reading log. 

Spelling:  Students will receive a spelling list and should complete three activities using the spelling menu.  The test will be on Friday, March 16th.  The activities will also be due on Friday, March 16th. 

Math:   We are finishing the study of unit 5 on Geometry and Measurement. Students have received a study guide, which is due on Tuesday, March 6th.  The Unit 5 Test will be on Wednesday, March 7th. Then we will begin unit 6 on multiplication, division, data, and fractions.  

Social Science: We will continue the unit on Chicago! Students will learn about Chicago's early history and its diverse neighborhoods!

Things to Remember:
Monday 3/5: It is the last day to turn in February reading logs.
Tuesday 3/6: The math unit 5 study guide is due. 
Wednesday 3/7: There will be a unit 5 math test. 
Friday 3/9: The Shedd permission slip is due.
