Miss Pellin's Post
April 27th to May 1st




Please join us for our spring Open House on Thursday, April 30th from 6:30 - 8:00.  Third grade's Open House themes are space and Chicago, so come wearing your favorite Chicago team's apparel!  There will also be a book fair.  I look forward to seeing each of you! 

My homeroom class will have reading MAP testing on Tuesday, April 28th.  They will take their math MAP test on Thursday, May 30th.  Please make sure students get a good night sleep and eat breakfast!

The Thirty-Third Week at School::
Science: We are currently studying the planets in chapter 10, lesson 3.  Students have been assigned a planet to research and become an expert on.  

Social Studies: Our class has been "hired" by a local travel agency in need of Chicago brochures. Each student has designed a brochure which will attract visitors to Chicago.  The brochure is due on Monday, April 27th.  We will continue our study of Chicago.  Look for a study guide to come home this week.   There will be a Chicago quiz on Friday, May 1st.  

Spelling:  This week in spelling we will work on List 24.  There will be a pretest on Monday, April 27th.  The final test will be on Friday, May 1st.

Reading:  This week we will read various fables.  We will also work on finding answers in nonfiction text.   


English: We will begin a friendly letter writing unit.  Students will  work on writing a letter to their second grade pen pal.  

Math:  We will finish the study of topic 13 on perimeter.  Students will be given a study guide on Monday, April 27th and it should be completed by Wednesday, April 29th.  There will be a topic 13 quiz on Thursday, April 30th


Students are working on timed division tests.  All students have passed their divide by 2, 3, and 4's test.  They are now on divide by 5.  They will have 3 minutes to complete 24 problems.  Students will have 5 days to pass each division test which they take daily.  If they pass in less than 5 days then they will move on to a new fact.  Students should be practicing their facts every night. 

Things to Remember: 
 Tuesday  4/28: We will take the reading MAP test.
 Thursday  4/30: There will be a topic 13 quiz.  We will take the math MAP test.  It is Open House! 
Friday  5/1: There will be a spelling test.

April 20th to April 24th



  

Earth Day is on Monday, April 22nd!  We will be celebrating Earth Day at Prairieview on Wednesday, April 22nd.  Students can wear an Earth Day shirt or the color green!

English: We will finish editing our story from Cow O'Leary's point of view on how the Great Chicago Fire started.  

Math: We will finish the study of topic 12.  Students were given a study guide which should be completed by Tuesday, April 21st.  There will be a topic 12 quiz on Wednesday, April 22nd

April 13th to April 17th

The Thirty-First Week at School:

Science: This week students will finish working on their google presentations on topics related to space and present.  

Social Studies: We will continue learning about Chicago. 

Spelling:   This week in spelling we will work on List 22.  There will be a pretest on Monday, April 13th.  The final test will be on Friday, April 17th.


Reading:  Students will answer text dependent questions about The Mysterious Giant of Barletta.  We will also work on finding answers in nonfiction text.   There will be a weekly vocabulary quiz on Friday, April 17th.


English: We will work on writing a story from Cow O'Leary's point of view on how the Great Chicago Fire started.  



Math: We finished the study of topic 11.  Students were given a short study guide which should be completed by Monday, April 13th.  There will be a topic 11 quiz on Tuesday, April 14th.  Students also were sent home with a sheet explaining the geometry project we are mostly working on in class.  Students can gather pictures from home, if they choose, to bring to school to help them complete their project.  



Students have completed all of their multiplication tests.  We are now working on timed division tests. Some students still need to pass their divided by 2 test. Students who have already passed the test, will move on to their divided by 5 test.  They will have 3 minutes to complete 24 problems.  Students will have 5 days to pass each multiplication test which they take daily.  If they pass in less than 5 days then they will move on to a new fact.  Students should be practicing their facts every night.

Tuesday  4/14:  There will be a topic 11 quiz.  

Friday 4/17:  There will be a spelling test and a weekly word test.
