Mrs. Burland's Post
January 29th to February 2nd

Thursday, February 1st is an early dismissal day. Please plan accordingly.

Congratulations to Robert for representing third grade in our district Spelling Bee this upcoming week.

Testing Information: As a third grade team we have made the decision as a 3rd grade team not to generally administer the Winter MAP test to our students.  At this time, we felt that the time away from instruction to take this test was not worth the results we would get.  We have not made any decisions about the Spring MAP test.  For Winter data review we continue to use Fountas and Pinnell Reading Leveling (Benchmarking next week) and our Common ELA and Math assessments that the students have taken on line which directly assess the standards we are teaching in our curriculum.  If you have further questions, please feel free to reach out to your homeroom teacher.

Upcoming Week at School:
Social Science:  This week students will study chapter 3, lesson 4 titled, A New Life in America.  A study guide for chapter 3 will come home this week and there will be a test in the week of February 5th.

Students will also study nonfiction text features and read good fit nonfiction articles. The January Reading Log is due on Thursday, February 1st.

January 22nd to January 26th

I want to congratulate Robert (winner) and Lydia (runner up) for representing our class for the third grade spelling bee. I was proud of every student's efforts and it warmed my heart how all students cheered on their classmates!

Today marks halfway through Trimester 2. I cannot believe how fast time is flying! It is a great time to check your child's grades.

Upcoming Week at School:

We will also continue our unit on traditions.  Next week, students will begin taking notes for an expository writing piece on a country where their family/ancestors have immigrated from. This weekend students should be deciding which country they would like to choose.
