Miss Pellin's Post 
June 2nd to June 6th

Students will meet their second grade pen pals on June 6th.  The third grade students will be able to tell the second grade students all about Prairieview!

Students will go bowling from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 9th.  Students have the option of bringing up to $10.00 for snack money.   Students received a permission slip on Tuesday, May 27th.  A few students still need to turn in bowling slips.  

The Thirty-Seventh Week at School:

Science: We will study different tools scientist use in the Getting Ready for Science chapter.  Students will also learn about how scientists conduct experiments.  

Social Studies: We will continue the study of chapter 9 titled Making Choices.  There will be a chapter 9 test on Wednesday, June 4th

Spelling:  There will not be a spelling list this week.

Reading:  
We will finish reading our Eye on Egypt book.  There will be an open book Egypt test on Thursday, June 5th.  Students should bring back their Eye on Egypt book each day.  The May reading log is due on Monday, June 2nd.  

English: There will be a pronoun test on Friday, June 6th.  

Math:  We will study graphing in chapter 12.  




Things to Remember:
Wednesday 6/4:  There will be a chapter 9 social studies test.
Thursday 6/5:  There will be an open book Egypt test.
Friday 6/6:  There will a pronoun test.  Pen pals will visit.  

Monday 6/9:  We will go bowling.

May 26th to May 30th


There will be no school on Monday, May 26th.  It is Memorial Day!  Please plan accordingly.

Students will go bowling from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 9th.  Students have the option of bringing up to $10.00 for snack money.   Students will receive a permission slip on Tuesday, May 27th.  They should turn them in by Friday, May 30th.

Science:  There will be a chapter 14 test on Wednesday, May 28th.  Then we will study different tools scientist use in the Getting Ready for Science chapter.

Tuesday: Cursive worksheet
Wednesday:  Write words 5 times each
Thursday: Write spelling sentences
Friday:  Post test on lesson 27

We will continue the study of Egypt.  Students will learn about pyramids and Cleopatra.

English: We will continue the study of pronouns.  Look for a study guide to come home this week.  There will be a test in the week of June 2nd.  

Math:  We will finish the study of area and perimeter in chapter 13.  Students will receive a study guide on Tuesday, May 27th and will be tested on Friday, May 30th.   




Things to Remember:
Monday 5/26:  There is no school.  It is Memorial Day!
Thursday 5/29:  There will be a chapter 14 science test. 
Friday 5/30:  There will be a spelling test and a chapter 13 math test.

May 19th to May 23rd 



Students are enjoying learning about Ancient Egypt!  

The Thirty-Fifth Week at School:
Science: Students' insulators are due on Monday, May 19th.  We will continue the study of chapter 14.  Students will study lesson 4 on sound.  Look for a study guide to come home.  Students will be tested on chapter 14 in the week of May 26th.

Social Studies: We will continue the study of ancient Egypt.  Students will learn about the Nile River! 

Spelling:  

Monday:  Pretest on lesson 26
Homework - Cursive worksheet
Tuesday:  Write words 5 times each
Wednesday: Write spelling sentences
Friday:  Post test on lesson 26

Reading: We will continue studying ancient Egypt.  Students will learn about the foods which were eaten by children in ancient Egypt.  They will also learn about pyramids.  S
tudents will have an Egypt vocabulary quiz on Thursday, May 22nd.  


English: For the next two weeks students will study pronouns in unit 6.  

Math: We will continue the study of area and perimeter in chapter 13.

Monday 5/19:  Insulators are due.
Thursday 5/22:  There will be an Egypt vocabulary test.  
Friday 5/23: There will be a spelling test.

May 12th to May 16th 

Happy Mother's Day!!  I hope everyone has a great Sunday!

Please note that Friday, May 16th is an early dismissal day.  Students will be dismissed at 11:00 a.m.  


The Thirty-Fourth Week at School:

Science: Students should complete their insulator by Monday, May 19th.  Check your child's binder on Monday, May 12th for sheet which goes into more detail.  An ice cube will be placed in each insulator and we will see which one takes the longest to melt!  We will continue the study of chapter 14.  

Social Studies: We will continue the study of Egypt and King Tut.  Students will also research various Egypt topics.  

Spelling:  This week students will receive a list of 10 words which relate to Egypt.  

Monday:  Cursive worksheet
Tuesday:  Write words 5 times each
Wednesday: Write spelling sentences
Friday:  Post test 

Reading: We will finish our poetry unit.  Students will write a poem with a rhyme scheme and a haiku.  Then we will read nonfiction books on Egypt.   

English: Students will take a friendly letter test.  They will need to know the parts of a friendly letter and be able to edit a letter.  Then they will write another letter to a person of their choice.  This letter will be graded.


Math:  There will be a chapter 14 geometry test on Tuesday, May 13th.  Then we will begin the study of perimeter and area in chapter 13.

Monday 5/12:  There will be a friendly letter test.
Tuesday 5/13:  There will be a chapter 14 math test.  
Friday 5/16: It is an early dismissal day.

Monday 5/19:  Insulators are due.

May 5th to May 9th


It was wonderful to see you at Open House!  Thank you for coming!


My homeroom class will have reading MAP testing on Wednesday, May 7th.  They will take their math MAP test on Friday, May 9th.  Please make sure students get a good night sleep and eat breakfast!

The Thirty-Third Week at School:
Science: We will begin the study of heat, light, and sound in chapter 14.   

Social Studies: We will begin the study of Egypt.  

Spelling:  

Monday:  Pretest on lesson 24
Homework - Cursive worksheet
Tuesday:  Write words 5 times each
Wednesday: Write spelling sentences
Friday:  Post test on lesson 24

Reading:  
During our poetry focus, we are discussing simile, hyperbole, metaphor, alliteration, onomatopoeia, and personification.  Students will be reading various poems and finding examples of these things.  Students will also be writing several poems.  

English: We are discussing the parts of a letter and editing letters.    Look for a study guide to come home.  Students will be tested on friendly letters on Monday, May 12th.  

Math:  We will finish the study of chapter 14.  Students will receive a study guide this week and will be tested on Tuesday, May 13th.  Also, this week students will take their math MAP test.  Please make sure students eat breakfast and go to bed early!  Students will be taking MAP tests with their homeroom class.  Check your child's homeroom teacher's blog for the dates these will take place.  




Things to Remember: 
Wednesday 5/7:  Students will take their math MAP test.    
Friday 5/9: Students will take their reading MAP test and spelling test.

Monday 5/12:  There will be a friendly letter test.
Tuesday 5/13:  Students will take a vocabulary quiz.
