March 2nd to March 6th



PARCC testing will begin on Monday, March 2nd
Parents can play an important role in getting students ready for these tests. Here are suggestions on how parents can help their children prepare for the PARCC: 

1. Make sure your child gets a good night’s sleep before the tests
2. Make sure your child eats a healthy breakfast the days of the test
3. Let your child know that he or she should take the test seriously and do his or her best
4. Talk to your child about what to do while taking the test, including:
a. Paying attention to directions
b. Asking questions about directions if they are unclear
c. Reading each question carefully
d. Eliminating wrong answers right away, concentrating on remaining choices
e. Double checking answers


The testing dates are during the first and second week of March:  
Mon. 3/2, Wed. 3/4,  Mon. 3/9, Wed. 3/11,  and Fri. 3/13.

The Twenty-sixth Week at School:

Science: We will focus on social studies this week. 


Social Studies: We will continue the study of chapter 3 on culture.  

Math:  There will be a topic 8 test on Tuesday, March 3rd.    

Students have already started taking timed multiplication tests.  All students have passed their multiplication by 2's, 3's, 4's, 5's, 6's, 7's and 10's test.  This week students will take their divide by 7 test.  They have 3 minutes to complete 24 problems.  Students will have 5 days to pass each multiplication test which they take daily.  If they pass in less than 5 days then they will move on to a new fact.  Students should be practicing their facts every night.  They will be tested on facts in the following order:

-8's
-9's
-11's
-12's

Spelling:  This week in spelling we will work on List 18.  There will be a pretest on Monday, March 2nd.  The final test will be on Friday, March 6th.

Reading: 
We will continue our unit on traditions. We will be reading nonfiction text and answering text dependent questions.  We will work in our Daily 5 stations on various reading strategies while reading good fit articles and/or books. The February reading log is due on Monday, March 2nd.  

English:   We finish our study of adjectives and adverbs in unit 4.  There will be an unit 4 test on Friday, March 6th.  


Things to Remember: 
Monday 3/2: There will be PARCC testing.  The February reading log is due.
Tuesday 3/3: There will a topic 8 math test.

Wednesday 3/4:  There will be PARCC testing.
Friday 3/6:  There will be a spelling test and an English test.

Social Studies: We will continue the study of chapter 3 on culture.  Students will complete a web quest on Ellis Island.  

Math:  We will continue topic 8 which is on division.

We will read The Matchbox Dairy  while reviewing different reading strategies.  We will work in our Daily 5 stations on various reading strategies while reading good fit articles and/or books.  There will also be a vocabulary quiz on Tuesday, February 24th.  Students have already received their words.

English:   We will continue our study of adjectives. 



 
Things to Remember: 
Tuesday 2/24: There will a vocabulary quiz.

Wednesday 2/25:  There will be a science test.  
Friday 2/27:  There will be a spelling test.

February 16th through February 20th



Remember that Monday, February 16th is Presidents' Day! There will be no school. Do you know the correct spelling of this holiday? Since Presidents Day is not the official name of the federal holiday, there is no one way to spell it. Both Presidents Day and Presidents' Day are common, and both are considered correct by dictionaries!

Thank you to all the parents who helped with the Valentine's Day Party! The students had a lot of fun!

Spring picture day will be on Friday, February 20th.

Science: We will finish the student of chapter 11 on matter.  Look for a study guide to come home.  There will be a chapter 11 test on Tuesday, February 24th.  

Social Studies: We will continue the study of chapter 3 on culture.  Students will complete a web quest on Ellis Island.

Monday 2/16: There will be no school today.  It is Presidents' Day!

Friday 2/20:  There will be a spelling test and a vocabulary quiz.  It is picture day!

February 9th through February 13th


On Thursday, February 12th we will celebrate Valentine's Day.  If students choose to pass out Valentine's Day cards, they should get a card for everyone in the class.  There are 21 students in the class. 

There will be an early dismissal on Wednesday, February 11th.  Students will be dismissed at 11 a.m.  Also, there will not be school on Friday, February 13th or on Monday, February 16th.

The Twenty-third Week at School:
Science: We will continue the study of matter in chapter 11.  

Social Studies:  We will continue the study of chapter 3 on customs and immigration. Students are learning about ethnic neighborhoods.  

Math:  We will finish the study of topic 7 on the meaning of division.  Topic 7 study guides are due on Wednesday, February 11th.  The topic 7 test will be on Thursday, February 12th.  

Students have already started taking timed multiplication tests.  All students have passed their multiplication by 2's, 3's, 5's, and 10's test.  Some students still need to pass their multiplication by 4's test.  Other students have already passed their 4's test and are on 6's.  They have 3 minutes to complete 24 problems.  Students will have 5 days to pass each multiplication test which they  take daily.  If they pass in less than 5 days then they will move on to a new fact.  Students should be practicing their facts every night.  They will be tested on facts in the following order:

-4's
-6's
-7's
-8's
-9's
-11's
-12's

Spelling:  There will not be spelling this week.

Reading: We will continue our unit on traditions.  This week we are studying theme versus main idea.  We will work in our Daily 5 stations on various reading strategies while reading good fit articles and/or books.  

English:   We will work on autobiographies.  We will also study adjectives.

Monday 2/9:  Teacher requested conferences
Tuesday 2/10:  Teacher requested conferences
Thursday 2/12:  There will be a math test.
Friday 2/13:  There will not be school.
