Miss Pellin's Post 
June 1st to June 5th

Students will meet their second grade pen pals on Wednesday, June 3rd.  The third grade students will be able to tell the second grade students all about Prairieview!

Students will go bowling from 12:00 p.m. to 2:15 p.m. on Thursday, June 4th.  Students have the option of bringing up to $10.00 for snack money.   

The Thirty-Eighth Week at School:

Science: We will finish our study of heat, light, and sound.  There will be a chapter 14 test on Thursday, June 4th.  

Social Studies: We will finish our study of Chicago.  

Spelling:  We will have our final spelling test.  There will be a pretest on Monday, June 1st and a final test on Friday, June 5th.  Homework will be due Friday, June 5th.  

Reading:  Students will present their biography facts.  Reading logs are due on Tuesday, June 2nd.  


English: We will continue the study of pronouns in unit 6.  

Math:  We will study graphing in topic 16.  There will not be a final test.  Instead students have polled the class and will make graphs with their data.

Tuesday 6/2:  Reading logs are due. 
Wednesday 6/3:  Pen pals will visit. 
Thursday 6/4:  Students will go bowling. There will be a science test. 
Friday 6/5:  There will be a spelling test.

May 25th to May 29th


There will be no school on Monday, May 25th.  It is Memorial Day!  Please plan accordingly.

The Thirty-Seventh Week at School:

Science: Students should complete their insulator by Thursday, May 28th.  Check your child's binder on Monday, May 12th for sheet which goes into more detail.  An ice cube will be placed in each insulator and we will see which one takes the longest to melt!  We will continue the study of chapter 14.  Look for a study guide to come home this week.  There will be a chapter 14 test in the week of June 1st.  

Social Studies: There will be a Chicago Quiz on Wednesday, May 27th.  

Spelling:  We will not have spelling due to the shortened week.

Reading:  
We will continue our biography unit. While reading biography books, students will be picking out juicy details about their person.  Students will work on making a poster for their biography presentation.  Students will present the details they find to the class.  There will also be a weekly vocabulary test on Friday, May 29th.  

English: This week we will study pronouns. 


Math: We are studying the metric system in topic 15.  A study guide went home on Friday, May 22nd and will be due on Thursday, May 28th.  There will also be a topic 15 test on Thursday, May 28th.  Then we will study graphs in topic 16.  




Things to Remember:
Monday 5/25:  There is no school.  It is Memorial Day!
Wednesday 5/27:  There will a Chicago Quiz. 
Thursday 5/28:  There will be a topic 14 math test.  Insulators are due.
Friday 5/29:  There will be a vocabulary test.

May 18th to May 22nd


The students enjoyed learning about different city zones and about banks during Junior Achievement this week.  

The Thirty-Sixth Week at School:
Science: This week students will learn about heat, light, and sound in chapter 14.  

Social Studies: We will continue the study of Chicago.  Look for a study guide to come home.  Chicago quiz II will be in the week of May 25th.  

Spelling:  
 This week in spelling we will work on List 26.  There will be a pretest on Monday, May 18th.  The final test will be on Friday, May 22nd.

Reading: We will continue our study of myths.  Then we will begin the study of biographies.  Students will pick good fit biography books to read.  There will be a weekly vocabulary quiz on Friday, May 22nd.

English: There will be a friendly letter test on Wednesday, May 20th.  Then we will begin the study of pronouns.  

Math: There will be a topic 14 test on Wednesday, May 20th.  The topic 14 study guide is due on Tuesday, May 19th.  Then we will begin the study of measurement in topic 15.  Also, students should continue to study their math facts.  They will be tested on their division facts.  




Things to Remember:
Wednesday 5/20:  There will be a topic 14 test and a friendly letter test.
Friday 5/22: There will be a spelling test and a vocabulary quiz.

May 11th to May 15th


Happy Mother's Day!!  I hope everyone has a great Sunday!

Please note that Friday, May 15th is an early dismissal day.  Students will be dismissed at 11:00 a.m.  

The Thirty-Fifth Week at School:

Science: We have finished our study of chapter 10.  There will be a test on Wednesday, May 13th.  Then we will begin the study of heat, light, and sound in chapter 14.  

Social Studies: We will continue the study of Chicago.  

Spelling:  This week in spelling we will work on List 25.  There will be a pretest on Monday, May 11th.  The final test will be on Friday, May 15th.

Reading: Reading:  We will continue our study of myths.  Students will read good fit short stories.   Students will look for rising actions, climax, falling actions, and the resolution.  They are also writing reading response.  

English: Students will take a friendly letter test on Fri,  May 15th.   They will need to know the parts of a friendly letter and be able to edit a letter.  This week students will write a letter to their second grade pen pal.  

Math:  We will continue the study of area in topic 14.  

Students are working on timed division tests.  All students have passed their divide by 2, 3, and 4's test.  They are now on divide by 5 and 6.  They will have 3 minutes to complete 24 problems.  Students will have 5 days to pass each division test which they take daily.  If they pass in less than 5 days then they will move on to a new fact.  Students should be practicing their facts every night. 


Things to Remember: 
Wednesday 5/13:  There will be a chapter 10 science test. 
Friday 5/15: It is an early dismissal day.  There will be a friendly letter quiz and a spelling test.

May 4th to May 8th

It was wonderful to see you at Open House!  Thank you for coming!


This week students will take the end of the year PARCC test.  Students will have the ELA PARCC test on Monday, May 4th.  Then they will take the 2 math PARCC tests on Tuesday, May 5th and Wednesday, May 6th.  Please make sure students get a good night sleep and eat breakfast!

The Thirty-Fourth Week at School:
Science: We will finish our study of space in chapter 10.  Look for a study guide to come home.  There will be a test in the week of May 11th.

Social Studies: We will continue the study of Chicago.  I will pass out a study guide for the first Chicago quiz on Monday, May 4th.  The quiz will take place on Friday, May 8th.  

Spelling:  We will not have spelling this week.  


Reading:  We will continue our study of fables and myths.  Students will read good fit short stories.  There will also be a vocabulary quiz on Friday, May 8th.  
 

English: We are discussing the parts of a letter and editing letters.    Look for a study guide to come home.  Students will be tested on friendly letters in the week of May 11th.   We will also begin writing letters to our second grade pen pals.  


Math:  We will begin topic 14 on area.
