January 6th to January 10th

I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday season!  Enjoy spending time with your families! 

I have noticed supplies have started to dwindle. Please ask your child what he/she needs before we start the new year together! School will resume on Monday, January 6th

We had a fun filled week leading up to winter break. The class had a great time bowling at Brunswick Zone! I shared pictures from our bowling field trip on SeeSaw. If you haven't joined yet, please sign up using the following instructions:

The Upcoming Week at School:
Social Science: We will continue our Amplify curriculum! Students will learn more about variations in species.

Math:   When we return from break, students will begin Unit 4, Module 1 on place value and rounding. Students will also take a divide by 2 division test on Thursday, January 9th. The division tests look very similar to the multiplication tests. Students will have two minutes to complete 26 problems.

Spelling:  Students will receive a new spelling list and should complete three activities using the new spelling menu.  The test will be on Friday, January 17th.  The activities will also be due on Friday, January 17th.  

ELA: Students will begin the week by writing a paragraph about their New Year's Resolution. We will continue our second unit. Students have read about tooth traditions around the world and wrote about their tradition when they lose a tooth. Next, we will read, What if You Had Animal Teeth? Students will decide which type of animal teeth they would choose and write a persuasive paragraph using text evidence about why the animal teeth they chose are the best! We will continue Daily 4 as well!

December Reading Logs will be due on Monday, January 6th.

Monday 1/6:  December Reading Logs are due.
Thursday 1/9: There will be a divide by 2 test.  

Friday 1/17:  There will be a spelling test and 3 activities are due.

December 16th- December 20th

The students are excited to go bowling on Tuesday, December 17th! There will be a bowling test in P.E. on Wednesday, December 18th. 

The Upcoming Week of School:
Social Science: We will continue our unit titled, Inheritance and Traits. We will keep investigating the question, "How are organisms similar and different?"

Math: We will finish our study of Unit 3 on fractions and decimals. Students have received a study guide for Unit 3 and it is due on Thursday,  December 19th. The Unit 3 Test will be on Friday, December 20th. There are many videos on fractions and decimals in my math Google classroom that students can watch in order to review. I have also posted them below.

ELA:   We will continue our study of culture and traditions. They will also read good fit articles and books during our Daily 4 stations. 

Students should keep reading for 20 min. each night and fill out their December reading logs. The December reading logs will be due when they get back from break on Monday, January 6th. I will give students their January reading logs before they leave for break.

Tuesday 12/17: We will go bowling.
Wednesday 12/18: There will be a bowling test in P.E.
Thursday 12/19: The Unit 3 math study guide is due.
Friday 12/20: There will be a Unit 3 Math Test. Winter Break starts after today.

The class is looking forward to attending The Polar Express on Thursday, December 12th. If you have not done so already, please send in your child's permission slip.

There will be an early dismissal day on Tuesday, December 10th. Please plan accordingly. 

The Upcoming Week of School:
Social Science: We will continue our unit titled, Inheritance and Traits. This week our investigations will be focused on comparing and contrasting organisms. 


Math: We will begin the study of Unit 3, Module 3 on fractions and then Module 4 on fractions and decimals. Look for a study guide to come home. There will be a test in the week of December 16th.   I have added videos on Google Classroom for fractions and will do the same for decimals. I also linked the videos below. Students will take a mixed multiplication test on Thursday, December 12thThere will be 40 problems with facts ranging from x0 to x9. Students will have 3 minutes to complete the test. They have received two practice tests.

Spelling: Students should complete 3 activities from their homework sheet and turn them in on Friday, December 13th. Some of activities listed cannot be turned in.  Please initial next to the activity name so that I know the activity was completed if needed.  The spelling test will also be on Friday, December 13th. 

ELA:  We will explore the famous poem Twas the Night Before Christmas by close reading it and creating our own version of the classic tale! Students will also read good fit books. 

December reading logs are now in your child's possession. They will be due the day we get back from break (Monday, December 6th).

November 25th - November 29th




The end of trimester 2 is today, November 22nd. Teachers will have grades completed by Tuesday, November 26th. An email will be sent out letting parents know when grades are finalized. I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving break with your families. This blog will include information for the two days next week and also the following week. Happy Thanksgiving!

Our class earned a marble party! On Monday, November 25th they can wear pajamas, bring a stuffed animal, and bring a sleeping bag/blanket.

Social Science: On Monday, December 2nd we will begin a science unit titled, Inheritance and Traits.

Spelling:  Students will receive a new list of words along with a homework sheet with a list of activities on Monday, December 2nd. Students should complete 3 activities from their homework sheet and turn them in on Friday, December 13th.  The spelling test will also be on Friday, December 13th

ELA: We will soon be starting our unit on culture. Our first story is The Keeping Quilt by Patricia Polacco. It is a great story about traditions in the Russian culture. Students will also read good fit stories during our daily 4 stations.


November reading logs are due back on or before Monday, December 2nd. 

Math: We will continue the study of unit 3, module 2 on comparing, composing and decomposing fractions and mixed numbers. Students will also take a multiplication by 12 test on Thursday, December 5th. 

Things to Remember:
Monday 11/25: It is our Marble Party! Students can wear pajamas, bring a stuffed animal, and bring a sleeping bag/blanket. 
Wednesday 11/27-Friday 11/29: Days off for Thanksgiving

Monday 12/2: The November reading logs are due.
Thursday 12/5: There will also be a X 12 Test.

Our bowling field trip will be on December 17th. If your child would like a snack at the bowling alley, please pre-order it using the link below. This is the only way students can order them. 



The end of trimester 2 is on November 22nd. Please make sure you are checking your child's grades. 

The Upcoming Week at School:
Social Science: A special thank you to our parent volunteers, Mr. Wells, Mrs. Smith, and Mrs. Heidorn, for joining us on our Downers Grove field trip! Despite the cold weather, we had a wonderful time! Below the class is pictured in front of Pierce Downers' House. 



Spelling:  Students have already received a list of words along with a homework sheet with a list of activities. Students should complete 3 activities from their homework sheet and turn them in on Friday, November 22nd.  The spelling test will also be on Friday, November 22nd

ELA: Students should bring back their disguised turkeys on or before Wednesday, November 20th. We will be using these disguised turkeys to write a persuasive paragraph convincing the farmer not to eat him for Thanksgiving dinner.

Students will also present their reader's theater myth. I will have students join Seesaw this week and send a video of their presentations!

Math: We will continue the study of unit 3, module 1 and module 2 on mixed numbers and equivalent fractions. Students will also take a multiplication by 11 test on Friday, November 22nd. We will not have math on Thursday due to the last two third grade classes going on the Downers Grove field trip.

Things to Remember:
Wednesday 11/20: Students' disguised turkeys are due.
Friday 11/22: There will be a spelling test and the menu is due. There will also be a X 11 Test.
