September 2nd - September 6th

Have a great Labor Day!  There will be no school on Monday, September 2nd!

I look forward to seeing everyone at Curriculum Night on Wednesday, September 4th  at 6:30 p.m.!  

A few reminders:  

Please sign your child's planner daily.

Please label all envelopes sent in with your child's name, their grade, what is in the envelope, and my name.

Please review the Prairieview Handbook at http://www.ccsd66.org/schools/prairieview/.  On the left hand side you will find a link to the Student Handbook.  

Our class will be taking the math MAP test on Tuesday, September 3rd.  We will take our reading MAP test on Thursday, September 5th.  Please make sure your child gets enough sleep before both tests!

The Second Week of 2013 at School:

Science: We will begin chapter 4 on ecosystems at the end of the week.  

Math:  I am excited to meet my math class on Wednesday, September 4th!  I am looking forward to a great year!  We will begin by studying place value and problem solving in chapter 1. 

Social Studies: We will study directions. Students will learn about cardinal and intermediate directions.  A study guide will go home this week.  We will have a directions quiz in the week of September 9th.  

Spelling: This week, we will be taking a pretest on Lesson 2 on Tuesday.  The cursive worksheet is for homework on Tuesday.  On Wednesday, depending on what group your child is in (challenge or non-challenge) the homework will either be 1 challenge activity or ABC order.  The final test is on Friday.  

Reading: This week we will start introducing the reading strategies that we will be utilizing throughout the rest of the year using picture books.  Then students will use good fit books to practice using various strategies such as making connections, predicting, and inferring.  We will also work on our reading stamina.

English: We will begin to study sentences. Students will be able to tell the difference between statements, questions, commands, and exclamation sentences. We will also be working on Daily Oral Language. Each day students will correct sentences from the board. This week students will be correcting end marks and capitalizing proper nouns.

Things to Remember:
Monday 9/2: It is Labor Day!  There is no school!
Tuesday 9/3:  We will take the math MAP test.
Thursday 9/5:  We will take the reading MAP test.
Friday 9/6: There will be a spelling "list 2" test.

I enjoyed meeting everyone at Open House!  I am looking forward to seeing each of you at Curriculum Night at 6:30 pm on Wednesday, September 4th. At Curriculum Night you will be given information about the school year.

Please send your child to school with one of their T-shirts (it won't be altered in any way) and a hanger by Friday, August 30th. The shirts and hangers will be returned by Thursday.  We will be using it for a fun school project!
