The students did a great job on their country presentations! They brought in wonderful showcase items and I enjoyed learning more about where their family/ancestors immigrated to the U.S. from.

Trimester 2 ended today. Teachers are still working on finalizing grades. You will be emailed when grades are completed next week.

The third grade students will go on a field trip to the Chicago History Museum on Friday, March 27th! If your child has not already turned in their permission slip, they should do so by Monday, March 16th

The Upcoming Week at School:
Reading: This week students will learn about various prefixes.  They will also present on their country.

Culture Week: Please make sure to look at the letter that was sent home about your child's country report! In a nutshell, this is what is expected from each student:

1. Pick any 3 chapters and practice reading them. Students will read these to the class.
2. Make something that shows your connection to the country (slide, poster, index card, video).
3. Bring in 2 items that represent your country (ie: music, food, instrument, pictures, book, souvenirs, flag photo, etc.)

-If a student picked a country they do not have a connection to, then they can show three showcase items instead.

I look forward to hearing each student present on their assigned date (3/9, 3/10, 3/11, or 3/12). Students will receive a paper copy of their research paper on Friday, March 6th, when the paper is due that they can use to help practice. For the time being, they can practice reading their paper from their Chromebook.

Spelling:  Students have already received a spelling list and should complete three activities using the spelling menu.  The test will be on Friday, March 13th.  The activities will also be due on Friday, March 13th.

Math:   We are finishing the study of unit 5 on Geometry and Measurement. Students have received a study guide, which is due on Monday, March 9th.  The Unit 5 Test will be on Tuesday, March 10th. Then we will begin unit 6 on multiplication, division, data, and fractions.  There will be a divide by 11 test on Friday, March 13th. We will not have math on Thursday, March 12th due to our early dismissal.

Social Science: We will begin a unit on Chicago! Students will learn about Chicago's nicknames, its early history and diverse neighborhoods!
