April 5th to April 9th

Monday, March 29th is the beginning of Spring Break. School will resume on Monday, April 5th. Have a great holiday!! I look forward to hearing all about your vacations!

The Twelfth Week of 2010 at School:
Science: We will once again focus on Social Studies. Next week we will begin Science again.


Social Studies: We will continue to study Egypt. Students will learn more about King Tut. We will be reading the chapter book Tut's Mummy...Lost and Found. Students will also work on an Egypt mobile in class. They will need to bring a hanger to school. Look for an Egypt test coming up. It will be in the week of April 12th.

Spelling: We will work on Spelling "List #25". There will be a test on Friday, April 9th. This week the test will only be done in cursive.

Reading: This week we will focus on monitoring and questioning while studying biographies. We continue our biography scrapbook project. Students will present their biographies on Thursday, April 8th and Friday, April 9th. They will be assigned a day. When presenting students should dress up like and/or bring a prop that their biography person would have. For example, if the person they read about a person who plays football, they can bring in a football.

English: We will be starting unit 6 which focuses on pronouns.


Math: We will continue "Mad Minute" division. This week students will study division by 5's. There will be a test on division by 5's on Friday, April 9th. Students will receive two minutes to complete 20 division by 5 questions. The geometry project will be due on Tuesday, April 13th. This week we will finish studying graphs and begin chapter 6 on probability.

Things to Remember:

Friday 4/9: There will be a Spelling test. There will be a division test.

Tuesday 4/13: There will be a chapter 6 and 7 Math test.

March 22nd to March 26th

The Eleventh Week of 2010 at School:
Science: We will focus on Social Studies this week.

Social Studies: We will continue to study Egypt. Students will learn more about King Tut. We will be reading the chapter book Tut's Mummy...Lost and Found.

Spelling: We will work on Spelling "List #24". There will be a test on Friday, March 26th. This week the test will only be done in cursive.

Reading: We will be focusing on visualizing and predicting as we continue our biography project. All students should finish reading their biography by Tuesday, March 23rd. We will make a biography scrapbook.

English: We will be continuing unit 5 which focuses on punctuation, capitalization, and abbreviations. There will be a unit 5 test on Friday March 26th. Students will receive a study guide on Monday, March 28th.

Math: We will continue "Mad Minute" division. This week students will study division by 4's. There will be a test on division by 4's on Friday, March 26th. Students will receive two minutes to complete 20 division by 4 questions. Practice sheets will be coming home throughout the week. This week we will work on graphing. In groups students are making graphs. A packet will be sent home this week about an up-coming geometry project.

Things to Remember:
Friday 3/26: There will be a Spelling test. There will be a division test. There will be an English test on unit 5.

March 15th to March 18th

Happy Paddies Day! Did you know that the Irish Society of Boston organized the first parade in the colonies on March 17th, 1737?



The Eleventh Week of 2010 at School:
Science: There will be a test on our Space unit on Tuesday, March 16th.

Social Studies: We will continue to study Egypt. Students will learn about hieroglyphics.

Spelling: We will work on Spelling "List #23". There will be a test on Friday, March 18th.

Reading: We will focus on visualizing and predicting. We will apply these strategies while studying biographies. Each student picked a biography to read on Thursday, March 11th. Some students decided that they would choose one from the local library this weekend. If they cannot find one, I will help them find a biography on Monday, March 15th. All students should finish reading their biography by Tuesday, March 23rd.

Math: The Chapter 22 test on perimeter, area, and volume has been moved to Wednesday, March 17th. We will continue "Mad Minute" division. This week students will study division by 3's. There will be a test on division by 3's on Friday, March 19th. Students will receive two minutes to complete 20 division by 3 questions. Practice sheets will be coming home throughout the week. Things to Remember:
Tuesday 3/16: There will be a chapter 10 Science test.
Wednesday 3/17: There will be a chapter 22 Math test.
Friday 3/17: There will be a Spelling test. There will be a division test.

March 8th to March 12th





There will be no school on Friday, March 12th. Please plan accordingly.

ISAT testing will continue through Thursday, March 11th. Here is some advice from Principal Schultz. Parents can play an important role in getting students ready for these tests. Here are suggestions on how parents can help their children prepare for the ISAT:

1. Make sure your child gets a good night’s sleep before the tests
2. Make sure your child eats a healthy breakfast the days of the test
3. Let your child know that he or she should take the test seriously and do his or her best
4. Talk to your child about what to do while taking the test, including:
a. Paying attention to directions
b. Asking questions about directions if they are unclear
c. Reading each question carefully
d. Eliminating wrong answers right away, concentrating on remaining choices
e. Double checking answers


The Tenth Week of 2010 at School:

Science: We will continue our space unit! Students will learn about the inner and outer planets. Students will receive a study guide for chapter 10 on Monday, March 8th. There will be a test on Tuesday, March 16th.

Social Studies: We will continue to study Egypt. Students will learn about the Cleopatra.

Spelling: We will not have Spelling this week. We will take the ISAT instead.

Reading: We will not have Reading this week. We will take the ISAT instead.

English: We will not have English this week. We will take the ISAT instead.

Math: We will review perimeter, area, and volume. There will be a Chapter 22 test on these concepts on Monday, March 15th. We will also begin "Mad Minute" division. Please look for a devision packet that will come home on Monday, March 8th. This week students will study division by 2's. There will be a test on division by 2's on Wednesday, March 10th. Students will receive two minutes to complete 20 division by 2 questions. Practice sheets will be coming home throughout the week.

Things to Remember:

Tuesday 3/9: There will be ISAT testing.
Wednesday 3/10: There will be ISAT testing. There will be a division by 2 test.
Thursday 3/11: There will be ISAT testing.
Friday 3/12: There will be no school.

Monday 3/15: There will be a chapter 22 Math test.
Tuesday 3/16: There will be a chapter 10 Science test.
