April 7th to April 11th

Monday, March 31st is the beginning of Spring Break. School will resume on Monday, April 7th. Have a great week!!

The Twenty-Ninth Week at School:
Science: We will continue the study of the planets.  Students have been assigned to a planet which they are researching.

Social Studies:  We will continue the study of Chicago.  Look for a study guide to come home.  They will be a Chicago Test III in the week of April 14th.  


Spelling: 
Monday:  Pretest on lesson 21
Homework - Cursive worksheet
Tuesday:  Write words 5 times each
Wednesday: Write spelling sentences
Friday:  Post test on lesson 21


Reading:  Students will read the story Two Days in May.  There will be a vocabulary and comprehension test on Friday, April 11th.  


English: We will continue working in unit 5 on abbreviations, book titles, and introductory words.   


Math: We will continue studying chapter 9 on Properties and Equations.  Students will learn about the Associative Property of Multiplication.  We will also have a multiply/divide by 12 test on Thursday, April 12th.  

Things to Remember: 
Thursday 4/10:  There will be a 
multiply/divide by 12 test
Friday 4/11: There will be a spelling test and a vocabulary/comprehension test.

March 24th to March 28th

Spring Picture packets need to be returned as soon as possible.  Please send the packets and/or order in with your child if you have not already done so.  Thank you!

The Twenty-Eighth Week at School:

Science: We will continue the study of the planets in lesson 3 of chapter 10.




Social Studies:  We will continue the study of Chicago.  There will be a Chicago II Test on Monday, March 24th.  


Spelling: 

Monday:  Pretest on lesson 21 and cursive worksheet
Tuesday:  Write words 5 times each
Wednesday:  Spelling sentences
Friday:  Post test on lesson 21

Reading: This week students will begin a research project on different topics such as black holes, comets, meteors, etc.  They will use their research to make a power point presentation.  


English: Students will work on their research project.  They will also start unit 5 on capitalization and punctuation.  


Math: There will be a chapter 11 test on Tuesday, March 25th.  Then we will begin chapter 9 on properties and equations.   There will also be a multiply and divide by 11 test on Friday, March 28th.  

Things to Remember: 
Monday 3/24:  There will be a Chicago II test.  

Tuesday 3/25:  There will be a chapter 11 math test.
Friday 3/28: There will be a spelling test and a multiply/divide test.

March 17th to March 21st 



Happy Saint Patrick's Day! Did you know that the Irish Society of Boston organized the first parade in the colonies on March 17th, 1737?


There will not be school on Monday (3/17) or Tuesday (3/18).  Please plan accordingly.

The Twenty-seventh Week at School:

Science: We will continue studying the planets in chapter 10: lesson 3.

Social Studies: We will continue to study Chicago.  Students will learn about the World Fairs.  Look for a study guide to come home.  Students will take the Chicago II test on Monday, March 24th.  


Spelling: 

Wednesday:  Spelling sentences are due.
Thursday: Words written five times each are due. 
Friday:  Post test on lesson 20

Reading: This week we will read various stories and discuss cause and effect.  We will also discuss the difference between facts and opinions.  


English: This week students will finish writing about the Chicago fire from the O'Leary cow's point of view.  Then they will share them with the class.


Math: This week we will finish the study of chapter 11.  There will be a chapter 11 test in the week of March 24th.  Look for a study guide to come home.  There will also be a multiply and divide by 9 test on Friday, March 21st.  


Things to Remember:
Monday 3/17:  There will not be school.  
Tuesday 3/18:  There will not be school.
Friday 3/21:  There will be a multiply/divide by 9 test and a spelling test.

Monday 3/24: There will be a Chicago test.

March 10th to March 14th

ISAT testing will this week. Here is some advice from Principal Schultz.
Parents can play an important role in getting students ready for these tests. Here are suggestions on how parents can help their children prepare for the ISATs: 

1. Make sure your child gets a good night’s sleep before the tests
2. Make sure your child eats a healthy breakfast the days of the test
3. Let your child know that he or she should take the test seriously and do his or her best
4. Talk to your child about what to do while taking the test, including:
a. Paying attention to directions
b. Asking questions about directions if they are unclear
c. Reading each question carefully
d. Eliminating wrong answers right away, concentrating on remaining choices
e. Double checking answers


The testing dates :  
Tues. 3/11, Wed. 3/12, Thurs. 3/13.

In honor of the students' hard work and focus during the ISAT testing, we are going to treat them to an ISAT celebration on Fri. 3/14.  We will be showing the movie Despicable Me 2.  This movie is rated PG.  If you have any questions, please contact me.  

The Twenty-sixth Week at School:

Science: We will continue learning about space in chapter 10.  We will study the sun and planets in lesson 3.  

Social Studies: We will continue our study of Chicago.  Students will learn about the Industrial Boom. 


Spelling: There will not be a spelling test this week due to ISAT testing.  Students will receive a spelling list on Friday, March 14th.  They will be tested on the spelling list on Friday, March 21st. 

Reading: Students will work on writing extended responses after reading different types of stories.  Students will also read about the Chicago Fire.  

English: Students will write about the Chicago Fire from Cow O'Leary's point of view.  

Math: 
We will be doing some spiral review this week as we prepare for ISAT testing.  We will be covering and reviewing a variety of topics, which will be covered again as review and taught more in depth later in the school year.  We will also take a break from division and multiplication tests.  Please continue to practice all facts at home.  We will have a divide and multiply by 9's test in the following week.
