January 30th-February 3rd

On Tuesday, February 14th we will celebrate Valentine's Day! If students choose to pass out Valentine's Day cards, they should get a card for everyone in the class.  There are 21 students in the class.

The Twenty-second Week at School:
Science: We will study chapter 11, lesson 3 on how matter can change. Students will study solutions and mixtures. We will also discuss the difference between physical and chemical changes. There will be a test in the week of February 6th. Look for a study guide to come home this week.

Social Studies:  We will focus on science.

Math:  We have finished unit 4 on Addition, Subtraction & Measurement.  The unit 4 study guide is due on Monday, January 30th. The unit 4 test will be on Tuesday, January 31st. We will then begin unit 5 on Geometry & Measurement. We  will have a divide by 6 timed test on Friday, February 3rd.  They will have two to complete 26 problems. We will not have math on Thursday due to the early dismissal. 
   
Spelling:  Students will receive a new spelling list and should complete three activities using the spelling menu.  The test will be on Friday, February 10th.  The activities will also be due on Friday, February 10th.  

Reading: We will continue our unit on traditions. Any final changes on students' country reports should be done over the weekend. The last day to turn them in is on Monday. Students will continue reading about culture. We are reading out of our Social Studies textbooks during our reading block, as we learn about immigration and culture. We will finish reading lesson 2 on learning new customs and go onto lesson 3 on immigration. Students will take a virtual tour of Ellis Island.  

January Reading Logs are due on Wednesday, February 1st. If students would like to complete the Six Flags reading log, it is due on Friday, February 3rd.

Monday 1/30:  Math unit 4 study guides are due.
Monday 2/1:  The math unit 4 test is today.
Wednesday  2/1January Reading Logs are due.
Thursday 2/2: It is an early dismissal day.
Friday 2/3:  There will be a divide by 6 test.  Six Flag's Reading Logs are due.

January 23rd-January 27th

Today marks the halfway point of trimester 2!  Please check your child's grades online.

Congratulations to our Class Spelling Bee winners, Will and Harris!  The class did a great job of cheering each other on!   I am so proud of all my students!

Six Flags’ Read to Succeed logs are due on Friday, February 3rd.

The Twenty-first Week at School:
Science: We will continue the study of matter in chapter 11, lesson 2.  We will discuss states of matter.

Social Studies:  This week we will focus on science.  

Math:  We will continue unit 4, module 3 on measurement. Students will study length, time, volume, and mass! It is a great connection to what students are studying in science!  Students will have a divide by 5 timed test on Thursday, January 26th.  They will have two minutes to complete 26 problems.   

Spelling:  Students will continue studying their spelling list and should complete three activities using the spelling menu.  The test will be on Friday, January 27th.  The activities will also be due on Friday, January 27th.  

ELA: We will continue our unit on culture and traditions. The students have started typing their written country reports. The reports will be due on Friday, January 27th. Please feel free to have your child show you their report so far!

Keep on reading for the January log! They will be due on February 1st!

Things to Remember:
Thursday 1/26:  There will be a divide by 5 test.
Friday 1/27:  There will be a spelling test and the 3 activities are due.  Also, country reports are due!

January 16th to January 20th

Remember that on Monday, January 16th there will not be school due to Martin Luther King's birthday.  Please plan accordingly.  

Spelling Bee:  We will have a Spelling Bee in our classroom on Wednesday, January 18th.  This year students will not be given a list to practice from.  They will use their prior knowledge to spell words. The winner and runner-up will compete against the winners in the other third grade classrooms on January 26th.  

The Twentieth Week at School:
Science: We will continue the study of matter in chapter 11, lesson 2.  We will discuss states of matter.

Math:  We will continue unit 4, module 2 on subtraction strategies.  Then we will begin unit 4, module 3 on measurement. Students will have a divide by 4 timed test on Thursday, January 19th.  They will have two minutes to complete 26 problems.   

Spelling:  Students will receive a new spelling list and should complete three activities using the spelling menu.  The test will be on Friday, January 27th.  The activities will also be due on Friday, January 27th.  

ELA: We will continue our unit on traditions.  Next week, students will continue taking notes for an expository writing piece on a country where their family/ancestors have immigrated from. Next, students will begin typing their facts.

Monday 1/16:  There will be no school due to Martin Luther King's birthday.
Wednesday 1/18:  We will have the class Spelling Bee.  
Thursday 1/19:  There will be a divide by 4 test.

January 9th to January 13th

Happy New Year! I hope you had a great winter break! I enjoyed my break, but I missed all of my students and am happy to be back in school!

Third grade students will take their math MAP test on Tuesday, January 10th and their reading MAP test on Wednesday, January 11th.  Please talk to your child about trying their best! Also make sure they eat a good breakfast and get plenty of sleep.  Thank you!

On Monday, January 16th there will not be school due to Martin Luther King's birthday. Please plan accordingly.     

The Nineteenth Week at School:
Science: We will continue studying chapter 11, lesson 1 focusing on measuring matter.

Social Studies: We will focus on science this week.

Math:  We will continue unit 4, module 1 on place value and the standard addition algorithm.  Then we will begin module 2 reviewing different ways to subtract large numbers. There will be a divide by 3 timed test on Thursday, January 12th.  These tests will be very similar to the multiplication tests.  They will have two and a half minutes to complete 26 problems.   Students who pass on Thursday, January 12th will receive the full amount of points (13/13).  If students don't pass the test on the first day, they will take the test the next day and receive 12/13 if they pass.  Students will continue taking the test each day until they pass and one point will be taken off each day.  

Spelling:  Students have already received a spelling list and should complete three activities using the spelling menu.  The test will be on Friday, January 13th.  The activities will also be due on Friday, January 13th.  

ELA: We will continue our unit on culture and traditions.  Next week, students will begin taking notes for an expository writing piece on a country where their family/ancestors have immigrated from. This weekend students should be deciding which country they would like to choose. 

Also, students will finish their book and jobs in their literature circle packet.
