June 3rd to June 5th

I have enjoyed all my students so much this year!! Thanks to all the parents who have helped make the 2012/2013 school year such a great one! Remember Wednesday, June 5th is an early dismissal day, please plan accordingly. Students will be dismissed at 9:30 am.


If your child has any textbooks at home, please make sure they return them on Monday, June 3rd.  I am missing a couple science and math textbooks.  I would appreciate if you double checked to see if any of the books are around your house.  Thank you!

On Monday, June 3rd we will have our school picnic! Each child will receive a hot dog, bag of chips and a bottle of water. They will also receive a dessert. If your child cannot eat a hot dog, they will need to bring their own lunch. 

Notice to Parents:
End of Year School Picnic  
In the interest of ensuring that all students remain safe while having fun during the school picnic, gym shoes will be the only acceptable foot wear of the day.  Little toes and feet cannot play when bruised and abraded. If feet are not in proper attire, students will not be allowed to participate in outdoor activities.  Thank you.

Things to Remember:
Monday 6/3: We will have our school picnic!  It is sunglasses and hat day!
Tuesday 6/4:  It is pajama day!
Wednesday 6/5: Students will be dismissed at 9:30 a.m.  It is crazy feet day!

Miss Pellin's Post 
May 27th to May 31st


There will be no school on Monday, May 27th.  It is Memorial Day!  Please plan accordingly.

Students will go bowling from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 31st.  Students have the option of bringing up to $10.00 for snack money.   Some students still need to turn in the bowling slips.  

Our class is going to have a four days until fourth grade count down.  The days are listed below.
May 31st: Crazy Hair Day
June 3rd:  Sunglasses/Hat Day
June 4th: Pajama Day


Cursive Workbooks are due Friday, May 31st.  

The Twentieth Week of 2013 at School:

Science:  There will be an open book chapter 14 test on Thursday, May 30th.  Students must bring back their science textbooks each day to school.  We are still using the books.  

Social Studies: We will continue the study of Egypt.  Students will learn about Cleopatra and King Tut.  

Spelling:  We have completed all of the spelling tests for the year.  There will not be a new list this week.

Reading:  Students will continue reading their good fit books and write various reading responses.

English: There will be a pronoun test unit 6 test on Wednesday, May 29th.  Students should keep English Textbooks at home until the day of the test.  Then they need to return their textbooks.  

Math:  There will be a chapter 17 test on patterns on Friday, May 31st.  Students must return math textbooks on Friday, May 31st.  




Things to Remember:
Monday 5/27:  There is no school.  It is Memorial Day!
Wednesday 5/29:  There will be a pronoun test.
Thursday 5/30:  There will be an open book science test.
Friday 5/31:  Students will go bowling.  There will be a chapter 17 math test.

May 20th to May 24th 

Students will meet their second grade pen pals on May 21st.  The third grade students will be able to tell the second grade students all about Prairieview!

HELPING  HANDS  WALK  FOR  CHARITY:  Bring your family and friends to have fun at the Helping Hands Walk for Charity on Wednesday, May 29 from 3:30-5:00 at Prairieview. The cost will be 5 dollars per family or 2 dollars per person. You will also be able to play fun activities and games throughout 5 stations for 1 dollar each. All money will go toward three charities: The Homeless Shelter for Veterans, The Mercy Home for Boys and Girls, and The Chicago Zoological Society.  A sign-up sheet will be sent home soon. Thanks!

The Nineteenth Week of 2013 at School:
Science: We will continue the study of chapter 14.  Students will study lesson 2 and lesson 3.  Look for a study guide to come home.  Students will be tested on chapter 14 in the week of May 27th.

Social Studies: We will continue the study of ancient Egypt.  Students will learn about King Tut and Cleopatra.  Also, students will have an Egypt vocabulary quiz on Thursday, May 23rd.  

Spelling:  We will take our last spelling test this week.  There will not be a pretest.  Students will need to complete a cursive page, abc order, and sentences.  They will be tested on Friday, Mary 24th.  


Reading: S
tudents will read "good fit books" while using various reading strategies.  Finally, students will be creating their own "Jackdaw" on their book. This will require them to gather objects or draw pictures which will help others guess the plot of their story.

English: For the next two weeks students will study pronouns in unit 6.  

Math: We will finish the study of chapter 24 on dividing larger numbers. There will be a chapter 24 test on Wednesday, May 22nd.  Then we will work on solving various word problems.

Wednesday 5/22: There will be a math test.  
Thursday 5/23:  There will be an Egypt vocabulary test.

Miss Pellin's Post 
May 13th to May 17th 


Our school has organized a wonderful Book Angel Book Drive to collect books for schools in need.  Students have been asked to bring in new or used books and the grade level with the most books collected will win a prize!  The last day to donate books is Friday, May 17th.  Thank you to all the students who already donated!

Happy Mother's Day!!  I hope everyone has a great Sunday!

Please note that Friday, May 17th is an early dismissal day.  Students will be dismissed at 11:00 a.m.  


The Eighteenth Week of 2013 at School:

Science: Students should complete their insulator by Wednesday, May 15th.  Check your child's binder for sheet which goes into more detail.  An ice cube will be placed in each insulator and we will see which one takes the longest to melt!  

Social Studies: We will continue the study of Egypt.  Students will learn about what Egyptians believed happened in the afterlife.  

Spelling:  There will be no spelling this week.


Reading: We will finish the study of poetry.  Then students will read "good fit books" while using various reading strategies.  Finally, students will be creating their own "Jackdaw" on their book. May 6th to May 10th


Students will attend a Wheel of Wisdom assembly on Thursday!  The Wheel of Wisdom assembly is a game show where students are asked trivia questions and can earn prizes!

Bookworm Angels:  Our school has organized a wonderful  book drive to collect books for schools in need.  Students have been asked to bring in new or used books.

The Seventeenth Week of 2013 at School:
Science: We will continue the study of chapter 14.  We will focus on the study of heat in lesson 1.  

Social Studies:  We will begin the study of Egypt.  Students will learn about the Nile River!

Spelling:  

Monday:  Pretest on lesson 26
Homework - Cursive worksheet
Tuesday:  Homework - Non challenge ABC order
Challenge - Activity 1 
Wednesday: Homework - Non challenge - Write sentences using your spelling words.
Challenge - Activity 2
Friday:  Post test on lesson 26

Reading: We will continue our study of poetry.     There will be a vocabulary test on Thursday, May 9th where students will need to define rhythm, rhyme, beat, line, stanza and pattern.    Students will also pick out a poem to read to the class on Friday.  They will be graded on their presentation of the poem based on a rubric which will be given to students early next week.  

English: This week we will continue the study of unit 5.  Students will review the capitalization and punctuation rules for book titles, commas in a series, and quotation marks.  Students will receive a study guide this week.  There will be a test in the week of May 13th on unit 5.  

Math:  We will continue the study of chapter 23 on multiplying large numbers.  This chapter will be enriched by having students multiply two digit numbers by two digit numbers.  There will be a chapter 23 test on Wednesday, May 8th.  Then we will begin the study of long division.





Things to Remember:
Wednesday 5/8:  Students will have a math test.
Thursday 5/9:  Students will take a poetry vocabulary test.
Friday 5/10: There will be a spelling test.  Students will present their poems.
