Miss Pellin's Post
June 2nd – June 6th


I want to take a moment to thank each and every one of you for making my first year an enjoyable, exciting experience. I will never forget my wonderful first class, each student is very special to me!

The class will take a Chicago Boat Trip on Tuesday, June 3rd! Remember to bring a sack lunch (and an optional $5 for ice cream). We will picnic at Gateway Park, across from Navy Pier or on Navy Pier. Remember to wear appropriate clothing, it can be very cold by the lake.

Center Cass School District #66 is in the process of implementing an Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) mandate, Response to Intervention (RTI). RTI is an array of procedures that can be used to determine if and how students respond to specific changes in instruction. RTI provides an improved process and structure for school teams in designing, implementing, and evaluating educational interventions. Please look for the additional information on RTI, which will be included with your child’s end of the year Report Card.


The Last Week of School in 2008:

English: We finish our work on persuasive writing. Has your child convinced you to increase their allowance yet?

Spelling: We have finished our Spelling curriculum. Everyone did extremely well.

Reading: We will read Top Secret and we will work on reading comprehension questions.

Math: We have completed our Math curriculum.

Science: We will finish our study of space.

Social Studies: We have completed our curriculum in Social Studies.











Things to Remember:
Tuesday 6/3: All I.M.C. (library) materials are due. There will be a Chicago Boat Trip dress appropriately.
Wednesday 6/4: We will have the Priarieview School Picnic.
Thursday 6/5: This is the last day of school for this year, there will be an early dismissal at 9:30.
Friday 6/6: Have a great summer!

May 26 – May 30

Don’t forget that there will be no school on Monday May 26th for Memorial Day. Have a great holiday! Please send your students back to school fully rested – we have a lot left to do.

The Twentieth Week School:

English: We will continue our to work on persuasive writing. When done with this unit you may find it difficult not to increase your child’s allowance.

Spelling: We will work on List # 33. There will be no pretest. There will be a final test on Friday, May 30th there will be a final test.

Reading: We will continue to read Hey, New Kid!

Math: The Chapter 11 Math Test will be on Tuesday, May 27th. There will be a mad minute division test on 10s
.

Science: We will finish our study of space by exploring the planets. There will be a space quiz on Friday, May 30th. The quiz will be on the sun, seasons, eclipses, and the planets. Students will be given a study guide for this. Please study the guide at home and we will work on this in class as well. Notice Saturn and poor Pluto (demoted to a dwarf planet).

Social Studies:
There will be no Social Studies this week. We will focus on finishing our Science unit on space.

Things to Remember:
Monday 5/26: There will be no school for Memorial Day.
Tuesday 5/27: There will be a Math Test.
Thursday 5/29: The third grade will be bowling in Gym from 12-2.
Friday 5/30: There will be a Spelling test. There will be a mad minute division quiz.
There will be a Science Quiz.

Miss Pellin's Post
May 19th – May 23rd

Even though the end of school is rapidly coming closer, the class is still working hard. There is much more left to learn before school is out. We are now having an ABC countdown to summer. This is a fun way to count down until the end of the school year!

We will be going on a boat trip in Chicago on June 3rd. Please make sure that your child’s permission slip is turned in. The bus is full. If you would like come you can still meet us in Chicago at Navy Pier. If you would like to meet us, please include this information in your permission form and the cost is $7.00.


The Nineteenth Week of 2008 at School:

English: We will continue our study of poetry. Toward the end of the week we will begin to work on persuasive writing.

Spelling: We will work on List # 32. There will be a pretest on Monday, May 19th and on Friday, May 23rd there will be a final test.

Reading:
We will finish reading the Chocolate Touch. There will be a vocabulary quiz on Monday, May 19th. We will begin to read Hey, new kid!

Math: Next Friday, May 23rd there will be a mad minute division by 9 quiz. Students will continue to work with decimals. The Chapter 11 Math Test has been moved to Tuesday, May 27th.

Science: We will continue to study space. Students will learn about the moon and the sun. There will be a moon quiz on Wednesday, May 21st. Students will be given a study guide for this.

Social Studies: There will be no Social Studies this week. We will focus on finishing our Science unit on space.

Monday 5/19: There will be a Spelling pretest and a reading vocabulary quiz.
Wednesday 5/21: There will be a moon quiz.
Friday 5/22: There will be a Spelling test. There will be a mad minute division quiz.
Tuesday 5/27: The Math Chapter 11 test will be today.

May 12th – May 16th

I enjoyed everyone’s biography scrapbook. The presentations were creative and well done. We practiced speaking loudly and looking at the audience. We also will have a reading party on Friday, May 9th for all students who have read for 20 minutes a day for the entire month of April.

We are now having an ABC countdown to summer. For instance, Friday May 9th is Game Day. Monday, May 12th is Hat Day. This is a fun way to count down until the end of the school year!

The Eighteenth Week of 2008 at School:

English: We will have a Unit 6 Pronoun Test on Tuesday, May 13th. Students can look at their pronoun review sheet, which they completed in class and at home, as a study guide. After the test we will begin our study of poetry.

Spelling: We will work on List # 31. There will be a pretest on Monday, May 12th and on Friday, May 16th there will be a final test.

Reading: We continue reading the Chocolate Touch Chapter book. Students will be reading each chapter independently. They will then answer comprehension questions using their book.

Math: Next Friday, May 16th there will be a mad minute division by 8 quiz. Students will begin to work with decimals.

Science: We will continue to study space. Students will learn about weightlessness and the phases of the moon. Students will receive a study guide for an up coming space quiz next week.

Social Studies: There will be no Social Studies this week. We will focus on finishing our Science unit on space.

Things to Remember:
Monday 5/12: There will be a Spelling pretest.
Tuesday 5/13: There will be a pronoun test.

Friday 5/16: There will be a Spelling test. There will be a mad minute division quiz. We will have a Character Counts Assembly at 1:50.
