Miss Pellin's Post
February 15th to February 19th

The pictures above show the Valentine's Day animal bags students made to hold their cards!  Thank you to the parents who planned and came in to help with our class Valentine's Day party! It was so much fun!

We will not have school on Monday, February 15th due to Presidents' Day.  Please plan accordingly.

The Twenty-fourth Week at School:
Science: We will focus on social studies.

Social Studies:  We will continue the study of Chicago.  Students will create their own design of the Chicago flag.

Math:   We will begin unit 5 on geometry and measurement. Unit 5, module 1 focuses on measuring angels. Students will have a divide by 7 timed test on Tuesday, February 16th.  They will have two and a half minutes to complete 26 problems.   Students who pass on Tuesday, February 16th will receive the full amount of points (13/13).  If students don't pass the test on the first day, they will take the test the next day and receive 12/13 if they pass.  Students will continue taking the test each day until they pass and one point will be taken off each day.

Reading: We will continue our unit on traditions.  This week we will read The Matchbox Diary by Paul Fleischman and discuss main idea and theme!  Students will also finish their argumentative writing paper on animal teeth. In addition, we will work in our Daily 5 stations on various reading strategies while reading good fit articles and/or books.  During our read to self station, students will read a good fit fiction book of their choice and complete a book report similar to the mystery good report.  The book report will be due on Friday, February 19th.

Spelling:  Students will receive a new spelling list and should complete six activities using the spelling menu.  The test will be on Friday, February 26th.  The activities will also be due on Friday, February 26th.
