Miss Pellin's Post
October 31st to November 4th

We had a boo-tiful time at our Halloween Party and Halloween Parade. Thank you to all the volunteers who helped make it possible.

Also, thank you to all the parents who helped level books!

Pictures:  Our retake day is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 3rd.

The Eleventh Week of 2011 at School:

Science: We will continue the study of matter in chapter 11.  Students will learn about different ways you can measure matter.

Social Studies: We will continue learning about the history of Downers Grove.

Math: We will continue the study of t-charts.  We will also begin the study of multipilication.  The third grade team has adopted a new system for teaching multiplication.  Each Monday I will send home a list of facts I want you to help your child master.  There is limited class time available to practice math facts, so students need to be practicing them each night at home.  Each Friday students will be given four minutes to complete 50 questions.  The questions will only include the facts students need to master.  Therefore, problems will be repeated.  Below are the facts students will need to know next week:

2 X 2 = 4
3 X 3 = 9
4 X 4 = 16
5 X 5 = 25
6 X 6 = 36
7 X 7 = 49
8 X 8 =64
9 X 9 = 81

Spelling: We will be back to working on our regular spelling lists this coming week with List #8. We will have a pre-test on Monday and our final test on Friday.  The homework is due on Friday as well.

Reading: This week we will be practicing the skill of cause and effect and synonyms and antonyms. Also, the October reading calendar is due on Tuesday, November 1st. Your child will receive a November calendar on Tuesday that is due at the end of the month. Remember to sign 20 days that your child reads 20 minutes to receive full credit.

Miss Pellin's Post
October 24th - October 28th

Thank you to the following parents for helping label our classroom books with Lexile scores: Mrs. Ryan, Mrs. Blough, Mrs. Wisdom, and Mrs. Lang. The classroom library is coming along great, but I still have books that need to be labeled.  If you are available at anytime during school hours next week, I would be more than grateful if you could come and help! Please email me and we can set up a date and time for you to come.  Thank you so much!!!

Halloween:

The Halloween parade has been moved to 1:00 p.m. on Friday, October 28th.  Then we will have our classroom party at 1:30 p.m.
Please keep in mind the following guidelines when helping your child pick out a Halloween costume:

1. We only have 15 minutes for costume changes. Please make sure your child can change into his/her costume easily and by themselves. If the costume can be worn over their clothes, then both the time to change and the chances of losing any clothes is minimized.

2. If the costume involves make up, please apply it before your child comes to school. If you send your child in with make up, then your child has to be able to apply it themselves.

3. Please do not send any weapons (guns, swords, etc.) as part of the costume. Save those for trick-or-treating.

4. We will not have time to change back into our clothes for dismissal. Your child will wear their costume home.
