February 25th through March 1st

Students have enjoyed researching for their country chapter book! They have loved sharing facts with one another! 

We will not have school on Friday, March 1st due to an institute Day.  Please plan accordingly.

The Upcoming Week at School:
ELA:  Students should have completed their research notes on their country. This week students will continue to type their country chapter book. If they do not finish typing their chapters in class, you may see it is for homework in their assignment notebook. 

The February Reading Log is due on Monday, March 4th. 

Spelling:  Students have already received a spelling list and should complete three activities using the spelling menu.  The test will be on Thursday, February 28th.  The activities will also be due on Thursday, February 28th.  

Math:   This week students will study polygons and their attributes. They will solve polygon riddles and then create their own. Then we will study area and perimeter using multi-digit numbers. We will have a divide by 9 timed test on Thursday, February 28th.  They will have two minutes to complete 26 problems.  

Social Science: We will continue our Balanced Forces curriculum. We are in the final chapter of the unit, chapter 5. It is titled, "Why does the train change from floating to falling?"

Things to Remember:
Thursday 2/28:  The spelling 3 activities are due and there will be a spelling test. There will be a divide by 9 test.
Friday 3/1 There will not be school due to an institute day. 

Monday 3/4: The February Reading Log is due.

The pictures above show the Valentine's Day animal bags students made to hold their cards! Thank you again to our party planner, Ms. Adams. Also, thank you to Mrs. Rivera-Carrero and Mrs. Poynton for coming in to help with the party. The students had so much fun!!!

The Upcoming Week at School:
Reading: This week students will continue to learn about nonfiction text features with nonfiction good fit articles. We will also research countries in order to prepare for writing chapter books! 

Spelling:  Students will receive a spelling list and should complete three activities using the spelling menu.  The test will be on Friday, March 1st.  The activities will also be due on Friday, March 1st.  

Math:   We will continue unit 5, which focuses on Geometry & Measurement (Area and Perimeter). This week we will focus on studying angles and polygons in module 2. We will have a divide by 8 timed test on Thursday, February 21st.  They will have two minutes to complete 26 problems.  

Social Science: This week in social studies, students will finish their immigration scrapbook! Then we will begin a unit on Chicago! In science, we will finish chapter 4 titled, "Why does the train float, even though gravity is acting upon it?" Then we will begin chapter 5, the last chapter in our unit, titled, "Why does the train change from floating to falling?"

Things to Remember:
Monday 2/18 There will not be school.
Thursday 2/21:  There will be a divide by 8 test.

Friday 3/1: There will be a spelling test and the three activities are due.

February 11th through February 14th


On Thursday, February 14th we will celebrate Valentine's Day.  Thank you so much to our party planners and to all the parents who are helping run the activities! I also appreciate the parents who are sending in treats and supplies! The students are going to have a blast!  If students choose to pass out Valentine's Day cards, they should get a card for everyone in the class.  There are 22 students in the class (7 boys and 15 girls).  We will pass out cards on Thursday before the class party.

The Upcoming Week at School:
Reading: Starting on Monday, students will begin taking notes for an expository writing piece on a country where their family/ancestors have immigrated from. This weekend students should be deciding which country they would like to choose. 

Spelling:  Students already received a spelling list and should complete three activities using the spelling menu.  The test will be on Thursday, February 15th.  The activities will also be due on Thursday, February 15th.  

Math:   We will continue to study angles in unit 5, module 1. Unit 5 focuses on Geometry & Measurement (Area and Perimeter).  Then we will study circles, lines, and polygons. We will have a divide by 7 timed test on Thursday, February 14th.  They will have two minutes to complete 26 problems.  

Social Science: There will be a chapter 3 social studies test on Tuesday. Students have a study guide which we filled out in class. Then we will begin a unit on Chicago! In science, we will continue chapter 4 titled, "Why does the train float, even though gravity is acting upon it?"

Things to Remember:
Monday 2/11 Math Conferences
Tuesday 2/12:  There are math conferences. There will be a social studies chapter 3 test.
Wednesday 2/13: There will be a tennis test in P.E.
Thursday 2/14:  The spelling 3 activities are due and there will be a spelling test. There will also be a divide by 7 test. We will have our Valentine's Day Party!
Friday 2/15 and Monday 2/18 There will not be school.

February 4th - February 8th

On Thursday, February 14th we will celebrate Valentine's Day! If students choose to pass out Valentine's Day cards, they should get a card for everyone in the class.  There are 22 students in the class. 

The final day for students to turn in their Six Flags reading page will be on Monday, February 4th.  This is optional. 


We'll be starting a 5 week session of Junior Achievement on Wednesday. Mr. Dan Blocker will be coming in to teach our third graders a curriculum involving business and community. He is an awesome volunteer and we are always so pleased to invite him into our third grade world.


The Upcoming Week at School:
Social Studies:  There will be a chapter 3 test on Thursday, February 12thA study guide to come home this week for chapter 3. Students should use this guide, their graded reviews (in their social studies folder), and their textbooks to study. They will take their textbooks home towards the end of the week. Also, in class students will be creating an immigration scrapbook.

Science: We will begin chapter 4 in our Balancing Forces unit. Chapter 4 is titled, "Why does the train float, even though gravity is acting upon it?"

Math: The unit 4 study guide will be due on Monday, February 4th. The unit 4 test will be on Tuesday, February 5th. Students can also review by going to my math Google Classroom to read over the addition and subtraction strategies we have studied, along with looking at examples of using a number line to solve elapsed time problems.  We will study angles in unit 5, module 1. Reading: We will continue our unit on traditions, immigration, and culture. Look for information about a Culture Day project to go home this week.

January reading logs are due on Monday, February 4th. Students will receive a February reading log on Monday.

Things to Remember:
Monday 2/4:  January reading logs are due. The math unit 4 study guide is due.
Tuesday 2/5: The math unit 4 test is today.
Thursday 2/7:  There will be a divide by 6 test.  

Thursday 2/12: There will be a chapter 3 social studies test.
Thursday 2/14: There will be spelling test and the 3 activities are due. There will be a divide by 7 test. We will celebrate Valentine's Day!
