November 25th - November 29th

The end of trimester 2 is today, November 22nd. Teachers will have grades completed by Tuesday, November 26th. An email will be sent out letting parents know when grades are finalized. I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving break with your families. This blog will include information for the two days next week and also the following week. Happy Thanksgiving!

Our class earned a marble party! On Monday, November 25th they can wear pajamas, bring a stuffed animal, and bring a sleeping bag/blanket. 

The Upcoming Week at School:

Social Science: On Monday, December 2nd we will begin a science unit titled, Inheritance and Traits.

Spelling:  Students will receive a new list of words along with a homework sheet with a list of activities on Monday, December 2nd. Students should complete 3 activities from their homework sheet and turn them in on Friday, December 13th.  The spelling test will also be on Friday, December 13th. 

ELA: We will soon be starting our unit on culture. Our first story is The Keeping Quilt by Patricia Polacco. It is a great story about traditions in the Russian culture. Students will also read good fit stories during our daily 4 stations.

November reading logs are due back on or before Monday, December 2nd. 

Math: We will continue the study of unit 3, module 2 on comparing, composing and decomposing fractions and mixed numbers. Students will also take a multiplication by 12 test on Thursday, December 5th. 

Things to Remember:

Monday 11/25: It is our Marble Party! Students can wear pajamas, bring a stuffed animal, and bring a sleeping bag/blanket. 

Wednesday 11/27-Friday 11/29: Days off for Thanksgiving

Monday 12/2: The November reading logs are due.
Thursday 12/5: There will also be a X 12 Test.

The Upcoming Week at School:

Social Science: A special thank you to our parent volunteers, Mr. Wells, Mrs. Smith, and Mrs. Heidorn, for joining us on our Downers Grove field trip! Despite the cold weather, we had a wonderful time! Below the class is pictured in front of Pierce Downers' House. 

Spelling:  Students have already received a list of words along with a homework sheet with a list of activities. Students should complete 3 activities from their homework sheet and turn them in on Friday, November 22nd.  The spelling test will also be on Friday, November 22nd. 

ELA: Students should bring back their disguised turkeys on or before Wednesday, November 20th. We will be using these disguised turkeys to write a persuasive paragraph convincing the farmer not to eat him for Thanksgiving dinner. 

Students will also present their reader's theater myth. I will have students join Seesaw this week and send a video of their presentations!

Math: We will continue the study of unit 3, module 1 and module 2 on mixed numbers and equivalent fractions. Students will also take a multiplication by 11 test on Friday, November 22nd. We will not have math on Thursday due to the last two third grade classes going on the Downers Grove field trip.

Things to Remember:

Wednesday 11/20: Students' disguised turkeys are due.

Friday 11/22: There will be a spelling test and the menu is due. There will also be a X 11 Test.

November 11th - November 15th

Monday is Veterans' Day and here at Prairieview we have a wonderful assembly honoring our own veterans (those who have a connection to our Panthers). Please contact the office if you are or know a veteran who would like to join us on Monday. Third graders should wear red on Monday. 

Downers Grove Field Trip: The class is looking forward to attending our Downers Grove field trip (11/14), which includes a tour of historical sites, the Downers Grove History Museum, and Giordano's pizza (optional). Students will be getting on and off the bus to visit the historical sites, so please make sure they are dressed for the weather and have comfortable shoes. 

The Upcoming Week at School:

Social Science: We finished our History of Downers Grove unit.  Students have already received a study guide. The History of Downers Grove test will be on Tuesday, November 12th. I added a quizlet to Google Classroom, which students can use to help review for the quiz. 

Spelling:  Students will receive a new list of words along with a homework sheet with a list of activities. Students should complete 3 activities from their homework sheet and turn them in on Friday, November 22nd.  The spelling test will also be on Friday, November 22nd. 

ELA: This week we will continue the study of myths while identifying character traits and text evidence. Students are working on reading fluency while performing various Greek myths. We will also be completing Daily Oral Language (D.O.L.). Students have already received a study guide. There will be a D.O.L. Quiz on Friday, November 15th. 

Math: We will study unit 3, module 1 on mixed numbers and equivalent fractions. Students will also take a multiplication by 9 test on Friday, November 15th. We will not have math on Monday or Thursday due to various third grade classes going on the Downers Grove field trip.

Things to Remember:

Monday 11/11: It is Veterans' Day! Third graders should wear red!

Tuesday 11/12: There will be a History of Downers Grove test. 

Thursday 11/14: We will go on the Downers Grove field trip.

Friday 11/15: There will be a D.O.L. Quiz and a X 9 Test.
