Mrs. Burland's Post
May 28th to June 4th

I have enjoyed all my students so much this year!! Thanks to all the parents who have helped make the 2017/2018 school year such a great one! Remember Monday, June 4th is an early dismissal day, please plan accordingly. Students will be dismissed at 11:00 am.


On Tuesday, May 29th students should turn in their Chromebook, case, and charger. They should bring these items to school.

On Friday, June 1st we will have our school picnic! Each child will receive a hot dog. If your child cannot eat a hot dog, they will need to bring their own lunch. 

Countdown to Fourth Grade:
Tuesday: Wear crazy socks 
Wednesday: Crazy hair day
Thursday: Wear PJ's and a bring a stuffed animal 
Friday: Sunglasses/Hat Day
Monday: Bring a fancy pen to write your signature with:)

ELA: May Reading Logs are due on Wednesday, May 30th. 

Math: Today, Friday, May 25th was our last day of math class.  I sent home a summer math packet will the students that they have the option of completing. I have really enjoyed having my math students this year!

Mrs. Burland's Bulletin 
May 21st to May 25h

















The students had so much fun at the Brookfield Zoo! A big thank you to our chaperones (Mr. Popovich, Mrs. Conyer, Ms. Strejc, Mrs. Bowers, Mrs. Ciocan, Mrs. Dewart, and Mrs. Martyka!

Students will meet their second grade pen pals on Friday, May 25th!  The third grade students will be able to tell the second grade students all about Prairieview!

The Upcoming Week at School:

Social Science: We will finish our study of Animals Through Time. We will complete mystery 5 titled, Can selection happy without people? I will hand out a study guide on Monday, May 21st. The Animals Through Time test will be on Friday, May 25th. 

Spelling: We have completed our spelling lists for the school year.

ELA:  Students will continue researching about whether animals should be kept in zoos. Then they will write an opinion/persuasive paper on this topic! Students will also read good fit articles as well. 

May Reading Logs will be due on 5/30. Students should keep on reading each night.

Math: We will finish our study of unit 7 on Reviewing & Extending Fractions, Decimals & Multi-Digit Multiplication. Students have already received a study guide that will be due on Wednesday, May 23rd. The unit 7 test will be on Thursday, May 24th. Our last day of math class will be on Friday, May 25th where we will have a celebration. I will be sending home a summer math packet will the students that they have the option of completing. I have really enjoyed having my math students this year!


Things to Remember: 
Wednesday 5/23: The unit 7 math study guides are due.
Thursday 5/24: There will be a unit 7 math test.
Friday 5/25: There will be a science test. Our second grade pen pals will visit Prairieview!

Happy Mother's Day to all of the wonderful Moms! Have a great Mother's Day!

On Thursday, May 17th when we head to the Brookfield Zoo, students should bring a sack lunch (completely disposable), wear comfortable shoes, and dress appropriately for the weather.

The Upcoming Week at School:

Social Science: We will continue our study of Animals Through Time. We will complete mystery 3 titled, Can you outrun a dinosaur? Then we will study mystery 4 titled, What kinds of animals will there be in the future?

Spelling:  Students received a new spelling list and 3 activities sheet. The 3 activities will be due on Friday, May 18th.  They will take their test on Friday, May 18th, as well. 

ELA:  Students will begin researching about whether animals should be kept in zoos. Then they will write an opinion/persuasive paper on this topic! Also, we will continue reading The One and Only Ivan while working on various reading strategies. Students will read good fit articles as well. 

Math:  We will continue the study of unit 7  on Reviewing & Extending Fractions, Decimals & Multi-Digit Multiplication. We will finish module 2 which focuses on decimals. Then we will begin module 3 which revisits multiplication. 


Things to Remember: 
Thursday 5/17: Students will go to Brookfield Zoo.
Friday 5/18: It is an early dismissal day.  There will be a spelling test and the 3 activities are due.

Please make sure your child has turned in their zoo permission slip by Friday, May 11th for the Brookfield Zoo! On Thursday, May 17th when we head to the Brookfield Zoo, students should bring a sack lunch (completely disposable), wear comfortable shoes, and dress appropriately for the weather.

MAP Testing: Third grade students will take their reading MAP test on Wednesday, May 9th and their math MAP test on Thursday, May 10th.  Please talk to your child about trying their best! Also make sure they eat a good breakfast and get plenty of sleep.  Thank you!

Social Science: We will continue our study of Animals Through Time. We will complete mystery 2 titled, How do we know what dinosaurs looked like?

Spelling:  Students will receive a new spelling list and 3 activities sheet. The 3 activities will be due on Friday, May 18th.  They will take their test on Friday, May 18th, as well. 

ELA:  Students will write an opinion/persuasive paper! Also, we will continue reading The One and Only Ivan while working on various reading strategies. Students will read good fit articles as well. They will take the Reading MAP test on Wednesday, May 9th.

Math:  We will continue the study of unit 7  on Reviewing & Extending Fractions, Decimals & Multi-Digit Multiplication. We will finish module 1, which focuses on comparing fractions and writing equivalent fractions. We will work then work on module 2 which focuses on Decimals. Students will take the Math MAP test on Thursday, May 10th. Please make sure students get a good night sleep and eat breakfast.


Things to Remember: 
Wednesday 5/9:  There will be Reading MAP tests. 
Thursday 5/10: There will be Math MAP tests. 

Thursday 5/17: Students will go to Brookfield Zoo.
Friday 5/18: It is an early dismissal day.  There will be a spelling test and the 3 activities are due.
