I was so impressed with the students' country presentations! I could tell that they had practiced. I really enjoyed learning about their personal connections to each country! 

We will not have school on Friday, March 2nd due to an institute Day.  Please plan accordingly.

The Upcoming Week at School:
Reading: This week students will work on the reading strategies of main idea/details and compare/contrast while reading good fit nonfiction articles. 

Please make sure your child is reading and keeping track of their minutes on the February reading log! The February Reading Log is due on Friday, March 1st. 

Spelling:  Students have received a spelling list and should complete three activities using the spelling menu.  The test will be on Thursday, March 1st.  The activities will also be due on Thursday, March 1st.  

Math:   We will study area and perimeter on complex shapes.  This week we will finish the study of unit 5 on Geometry and Measurement. Look for a study guide to come home the week of March 5th.  Students will take a mixed division test on Thursday, March 1stThere will be 40 problems with facts ranging from  divide by 0 to divide by 9. Students will have 3 minutes to complete the test. Each problem will be worth a half point, totaling 20 points. There will not be retakes. They have received two practice tests.

Social Science: We will begin a unit on Chicago! Students will learn about the Chicago flag and its early history

Things to Remember:
Thursday 3/1:  There will be a spelling test and the 3 activities are due. There will be a mixed division test.  The February Reading Log is due. 
Friday 3/2: Teacher Institute Day

The pictures above show the Valentine's Day animal bags students made to hold their cards! Thank you again to the parents who planned, came in to help with our class, and sent in treats for our Valentine's Day party! The students had so much fun!!!

We will not have school on Friday, February 16th or Monday, February 19th.  Please plan accordingly.

The Upcoming Week at School:
Reading: This week students will continue to learn about nonfiction text features with nonfiction good fit articles. They will create their own booklets filled with text features. Please make sure your child is reading and keeping track of their minutes on the February reading log!

Culture Week: Please make sure to look at the letter that was sent home about Culture Week! Students will need to read three chapters from their country report to the class, share their family/ancestor connection to the country they are presenting, and bring in 2 items as well. I look forward to hearing each student present on their assigned date (2/20, 2/21, 2/22, or 2/23). Students have received a paper copy of their research paper on Thursday, February 15th that they can use to help practice.

Math:   This week students will study polygons and their attributes. They will solve polygon riddles and then create their own. Then we will study area and perimeter using multi-digit numbers. We will have a divide by 12 timed test on Wednesday, February 21st.  They will have two minutes to complete 26 problems.  

Social Science: This week students will make an immigration scrapbook! Then we will begin a unit on Chicago!

Monday 2/19 There will not be school.
Tuesday 2/20:  Culture Day Presentations
Wednesday 2/21: There will be a divide by 12 test and there will be Culture Day Presentations!
Thursday 2/22:  Culture Day Presentations

February 12th through February 16th


On Wednesday, February 14th we will celebrate Valentine's Day.  Thank you so much to our party planners and to all the parents who are helping run the activities! I also appreciate the parents who are sending in treats and supplies! The students are going to have a blast!  If students choose to pass out Valentine's Day cards, they should get a card for everyone in the class.  There are 23 students in the class (12 boys and 11 girls).  We will pass out cards on Wednesday before the class party.

Math:   Last week, we studied angles and reviewed area and perimeter. This week we will review how to measure angles and will study lines and polygons as well. Unit 5 focuses on Geometry & Measurement (Area and Perimeter). We will have a divide by 10 and 11 timed test on Wednesday, February 14th.  They will have two minutes to complete 26 problems.  

Social Science:  I was so proud of our class on how well everyone did on the chapter 3 social studies test! This week students will make an immigration scrapbook. Then we will begin a unit on Chicago!

Wednesday 2/14: There will be a divide by 10 and 11 test. We will have our Valentine's Day Party!

The 100th day of school is coming! We will be celebrating on Tuesday with some fun activities! 

On Wednesday, February 14th we will celebrate Valentine's Day! If students choose to pass out Valentine's Day cards, they should get a card for everyone in the class.  There are 23 students in the class. 


The Upcoming Week at School:
Social Science:  A study guide to come home this week. There will be a chapter 3 test on Wednesday, February 7th. Also, in class students will begin creating an immigration scrapbook.

Math: We will continue to study angles in unit 5, module 1. Unit 5 focuses on Geometry & Measurement (Area and Perimeter).  Then we will study circles, lines, and polygons. We will have a divide by 9 timed test on Wednesday, February 7th.  They will have two minutes to complete 26 problems.  

Spelling:  Students will receive a new spelling list and should complete three activities using the spelling menu.  The test will be on Thursday, February 15th.  The activities will also be due on Thursday, February 15th.  

Reading: We will continue our unit on traditions. Students will finish typing their country research paper. The paper should be completed by Tuesday, February 5th. Then students will peer edit their papers. On Tuesday a letter will go home regarding our "Culture Day" activity. I will be assigning presentations at that time. 

Things to Remember:
Tuesday 2/6:  We will celebrate the 100th day of school! Country research papers should be completed. 
Wednesday  2/7There will be a chapter 3 social studies test and a divide by 7 test.
Friday 2/9:  There will be a spelling test and the 3 activities are due.

Wednesday 2/14: We will celebrate Valentine's Day!
