March 23rd to March 27th



Spring officially began today so we are going to kick-off Spring Break with a "Think Spring Spirit Week" next week:

Monday 3/23 Spring Training Day - Cubs vs. Sox - support your favorite team and wear something Cubs or Sox.
Tuesday 3/24 Shades Day - wear your sunglasses to school.
Wednesday 3/25 Think Spring Day - wear spring colors (yellow, pink, light blue, green, etc.)
Thursday 3/26 Hat Day - wear your favorite hat.
Friday 3/27 Comfy Clothes Day -Wear your most comfortable clothes to school - including pajama pants if you wish.

The Twenty-ninth Week at School:

Science: We will study space in chapter 10.  Students will learn about moon phases.    

Social Studies: We will continue learning about Chicago.  Students will learn about the first Chicagoans.  

Math:  We will finish the study of fractions in topic 10.  Study guides will be passed out on  Monday, March 23rd and will be due on Thursday, March 26th.  There will be a topic 10 test on Friday, March 27th.  Then we will continue studying fractions in topic 10.  

Students have already started taking timed multiplication tests.  All students have passed their multiplication by 2's, 3's, 4's, 5's, 6's, 7's, 8's, 10's, and 11's test.  This week students will take their multiplication by 12 test.  They have 3 minutes to complete 24 problems.  Students will have 5 days to pass each multiplication test which they take daily.  If they pass in less than 5 days then they will move on to a new fact.  Students should be practicing their facts every night.  They will be tested on facts in the following order:

Spelling:   This week in spelling we will work on List 21.  There will be a pretest on Monday, March 23rd.  The final test will be on Friday, March 27th.

Reading: We continue our new unit titled Folktales, Fables, & Myths OH MY!!  This week we will read The Ballad of Mulan. We’ll also be reading The Tales of Beedle the Bard by J.K. Rowling as our read-aloud. We will work in our Daily 5 stations on various reading strategies while reading good fit articles and/or books.  Students will work on part/whole analogies.  There will be a weekly vocabulary quiz on Thursday, March 26th.  

English:  Students will write reading responses.  

Things to Remember for class: 

Wednesday 3/25:  There will be a P.E. test.  

Thursday 3/26: There will be a vocabulary quiz.  

Friday 3/27:  There will be a spelling test and a topic 10 test.
