March 16th to March 20th 



Happy Saint Patrick's Day! Did you know that the Irish Society of Boston organized the first parade in the colonies on March 17th, 1737?


The Twenty-eighth Week at School:

Science: We will study space in chapter 10.  Students will begin by learning about why we have seasons.  

Social Studies: We will learning about Chicago.  Students will learn about the early history of Chicago.  


Math:  We will finish the study of fractions in topic 9.  Study guides are due on Monday, March 16th and there will be a topic 9 test on Tuesday, March 17th.  Then we will continue studying fractions in topic 10.  

Students have already started taking timed multiplication tests.  All students have passed their multiplication by 2's, 3's, 4's, 5's, 6's, 7's, 8's and 10's test.  Some students still need to pass their multiplication by 9 test and other students have moved on to multiplication by 11's.  They have 3 minutes to complete 24 problems.  Students will have 5 days to pass each multiplication test which they take daily.  If they pass in less than 5 days then they will move on to a new fact.  Students should be practicing their facts every night.  They will be tested on facts in the following order:

-9's
-11's
-12's

Spelling:   This week in spelling we will work on List 20.  There will be a pretest on Monday, March 16th.  The final test will be on Friday, March 20th.

Reading: 
We will begin a new unit titled Folktales, Fables, & Myths OH MY!!  Rumpelstiltskin will be our first story which we will close read together.  We’ll also be reading The Tales of Beedle the Bard by J.K. Rowling as our read-aloud. We will work in our Daily 5 stations on various reading strategies while reading good fit articles and/or books.  Students will have a quiz on synonym and antonym analogies on Friday, March 20th

English:  Students are writing about the type of animal teeth they would choose to have and using text proof to support their choice.  


Things to Remember: 
Tuesday 3/17:  There will a topic 9 math test.  
Friday 3/20:  There will be a spelling test and a synonym and antonym analogy quiz.
