February 24th to February 28th

Friday, February 28th is a teacher institute day.  There will not be school.  Please plan accordingly.   

ISAT testing will begin on Tuesday, March 4th. Here is some advice from Principal Schultz.
Parents can play an important role in getting students ready for these tests. Here are suggestions on how parents can help their children prepare for the ISATs: 

1. Make sure your child gets a good night’s sleep before the tests
2. Make sure your child eats a healthy breakfast the days of the test
3. Let your child know that he or she should take the test seriously and do his or her best
4. Talk to your child about what to do while taking the test, including:
a. Paying attention to directions
b. Asking questions about directions if they are unclear
c. Reading each question carefully
d. Eliminating wrong answers right away, concentrating on remaining choices
e. Double checking answers

The testing dates are during the first and second week of March:  

Tues. 3/4, Wed. 3/5, Thurs. 3/6, ; and on Tues. 3/11, Wed. 3/12, Thurs. 3/13.

The Twenty-fourth Week at School:

Science: We will continue learning about space in chapter 10.  We will study the lunar cycle in lesson 2.

Social Studies: We will continue our study of Chicago.  Students will learn about the first Chicagoans and the founding of Chicago.  

Spelling: There will not be a spelling test this week or next week.  In place of spelling, students will continue to learn about prefix, suffix, and root words.  There will be a prefix/suffix test on Thursday, February 27th.  They should study their packets.  

Reading: Students will work on writing extended responses after reading different types of stories.

English: Students will type stories based off of immigration scenarios. 

Math: There will be a chapter 10 test on Thursday, February 27th.  We will also be doing some spiral review this week as we prepare for ISAT testing.  We will be covering and reviewing a variety of topics, which will be covered again as review and taught more in depth later in the school year.  We will also take a break from division and multiplication tests.  Please continue to practice all facts at home, but we will finish our 9's, 11's, and 12's in a few weeks.  




Things to Remember: 
Thursday 2/27:  There will be a chapter 10 math test and a prefix/suffix test.  
Friday 2/28:  There will not be school due to a teacher institute day.
