Miss Pellin's Post
February 21st through February 25th

Remember that Monday, February 21st is Presidents' Day! There will be no school. Do you know the correct spelling of this holiday? Since Presidents Day is not the official name of the federal holiday, there is no one way to spell it. Both Presidents Day and Presidents' Day are common, and both are considered correct by dictionaries!

Thank you to all the parents who helped with the Valentine's Day Party! The students had a lot of fun!

Spring Conferences will be held during the week of February 28th. Details regarding conferences went home on Friday, February 11th.

ISATs:  Please take some time to check out the Illinios State Board of Education (ISBE) website below for important information regarding the upcoming ISAT test your child will be taking starting March 1, 2011. The Illinois Standards Achievement Test (ISAT) measures individual student achievement relative to the Illinois Learning Standards. The results give parents, teachers, and schools one measure of student learning and school performance.

Click here to find sample books for this year and previous years. These sample booklets will show you the types of questions your child will be answering in reading and math.

Students will take a mixed mad minute multiplication test on Tuesday, March 8th. Starting on Tuesday, February 22nd students will take practice mixed multiplication tests each day leading up to the test. If a student passes (gets fewer than one wrong) before the final test day, then they pass the test and do not need to continue taking mixed multiplication tests. Students need to complete 40 problems in four and a half minutes!

Spelling: There will not be a spelling test this week.  In place of spelling, students will learn about prefix, suffix, and root words.

Reading: Students will continue to work on writing extended responses after reading many different types of stories.

English: We continue the unit on friendly letter writing.  There will be a friendly letter test on Friday, February 25th.  Students will also write a letter to a relative or friend.
