February 14th through February 18th
Prairieview will be celebrating Valentine's Day on Monday, February 14th. Happy Valentine's Day! If students bring cards to share at school, they must have one for every student in the class. There are 23 students in our class. Students should not bring in cards that include tattoos or candy. They may hand out toys or pencils.
Remember that Monday, February 21st is President's Day. There will be no school.
Spring Conferences will be held during the week of February 28th. Details regarding conferences went home on Friday, February 11th.
The Fifth Week of 2011 at School:
Science: We will continue our study of ecosystems in chapter 4.
The in school "field trip" about matter will be in the morning of Monday, February 14th. The cost of the presentation will be covered with the money from last years canceled field trip (when your child was in 2nd grade).
Social Studies: We will finish our study of chapter 3. Students will receive a study guide on Monday, February 14th. There will be a test on Thursday, February 17th. Then we will begin the study of Egypt.Math: This week we will have a "x12" multiplication test on Friday, February 18th. Students should be studying their "x12" facts every night. We will finish our study of space figures in chapter 16. Then we will begin studying area and perimeter in chapter 22. There will be a chapter 15 and 16 test on Friday, February 18th. Students will receive a study guide on Monday, February 14th.
Spelling: There will not be a spelling test this week. In place of spelling, students will learn about prefix, suffix, and root words.
Reading: Students selected a book on an influential African American for Black History Month. Students will finish reading their book and will work on a making a photo album. The photo album will be due on Friday, February 18th.
English: We continue the unit on friendly letter writing. Students will write a letter to a relative or friend.
Things to Remember:
Monday 2/14: We will have a Valentine's Day party!
Thursday 2/17: There will be a social studies test.
Friday 2/18: We will have a multiplication test and a spelling test.
Monday 2/21: This is President's Day. There will be no school.
