Miss Pellin's Post
February 13th through February 17th

On Tuesday, February 14th we will celebrate Valentine's Day.  Thank you so much to our party planner, Mrs. Gajula, and to all the parents who are helping run the activities! I also appreciate the parents who are sending in treats and supplies! The students are going to have a blast!  If students choose to pass out Valentine's Day cards, they should get a card for everyone in the class.  There are 21 students in the class.  We will pass out cards on Tuesday.

We will be having an in-school field trip on Tuesday, February 21st that we like to call "Matter, Matters." Scientists from High Touch, High Tech will be coming in to teach us all about the states of matter while conducting experiments.

We will not have school on Friday, February 17th or Monday, February 20th.  Please plan accordingly.

The Twenty-fourth Week at School:
Science: We will begin our study of space in chapter 10!

Social Studies:  We finished reading chapter 3 out of our social studies textbooks during our reading block, as we learned about immigration and culture. Students worked collaboratively on note-taking and completed open book reviews. This was a cross-curricular activity. Grades from chapter 3 reviews and the final assessment will be appearing in English/Language Arts. The final assessment will take place on Thursday, February 16th. Students have received a study guide. They can complete it at home if they choose. They will have some class time on Monday to complete it as well.

Math:   Last week, we studied angles and reviewed area and perimeter. This week we will study circles, lines, and polygons. Unit 5 focuses on Geometry & Measurement (Area and Perimeter). We will have a divide by 8 timed test on Thursday, February 16th.  They will have two minutes to complete 26 problems.

Spelling:  Students will receive a new spelling list and should complete 3 activities.  The test will be on Friday, February 24th.  The activities will also be due on Friday, February 24th.

Reading: We will continue our unit, Culture and Traditions. We will be starting our "Culture Day" activity this week. A letter and other information will be coming home on Monday. I will be assigning presentations starting on Wednesday, February 22nd.
