Miss Pellin's Post
September 19th- September 23rd

Monday, September 26th is Johnny Appleseed’s birthday. We will be having a celebration! Please send a peeled, cored, and sliced apple with your child on Monday, September 26th to be used to make applesauce for the class.   Thank you to the parents who donated bowls, spoons, and juice boxes!  



The Fifth Week of 2016 at School:

Science: This week we will focus on social studies.

Social Studies: There will be a Continent and Ocean Test on Thursday, September 22nd. This week students will be assigned a continent. Students will learn how to make a google presentation and will prepare a couple slides on their continent.


Math: 
We will continue our study of unit 1 which focuses on multiplication and division.  This week students will make multiplication comparisons. Students will take a multiplication by 3 test on Wednesday, September 21st They will have two minutes to complete 26 problems.   Students who pass on Wednesday, September 21st will receive the full amount of points (13/13).  If students don't pass the test on the first day, they will take the test the next day and receive 12/13 if they pass.  Students will continue taking the test each day until they pass and one point will be taken off each day.  

Spelling: We will continue our Ways Their Way program.  Students will be given a list of words along with a homework sheet with a list of activities.  Students should complete 3 activities and turn them in on Friday, September 30th.  One of the activities listed cannot be turned in.   Please initial next to the activity name so that I know the activity was completed if needed.  The spelling test will also be on Friday, September 30th.  

English Language Arts: We will continue our writer's workshop. Students have picked one of their writing pieces to focus on and they will start revising their writing piece. This past week students learned about point of view (first person, second person, and third person). The stories we are writing at this time are written in first person. 

Also, we will continue our folktales unit during reading workshop and students will learn more about fables. We started our Daily 4 program and students enjoyed the stations. During one station, students work on the Lexia program. Ask your child to show you this program on their chromebook.


Things to Remember:
Wednesday 9/21:  There will be a multiplication by 3 test. 

Thursday 9/22: There will be a Continent and Ocean Test.

Monday 9/26: It's Johnny Appleseed's birthday celebration!
