Please send a peeled, cored, and sliced apple with your child on Monday, September 26th to be used to make applesauce for the class. We are looking for donations of small bowls, plastic spoons, and apple juice. The Fourth Week of School:

Science: We will focus on social studies this week.

Social Studies: We will learn about the continents and oceans.  Students will research facts about different continents.

Math:
We will continue our study of Module 1 which focuses on multiplication and division.  Students will begin to take timed multiplication tests.  We will begin with multiplication by 2.  They will have two and a half minutes to complete 26 problems.  The first test will be on Wednesday, September 14th.  Students who pass on Wednesday, September 14th will receive the full amount of points (13/13).  If students don't pass the test on the first day, they will take the test the next day and receive 12/13 if they pass.  Students will continue taking the test each day until they pass and one point will be taken off each day.

In the your child's math google classroom, I have posted the Home Connection Workbook and the Student Workbook. Students can use these pages as a resource if they forget to take their homework home. Students also have been given a username and password for xtramath to practice their math facts. They can find the link to xtramath in the math google classroom as well.

Spelling: Students were given their list of words along with a homework sheet with a list of activities.  Students should complete 3 activities.  The activities they complete should be turned in on Friday, September 16th.  Some of activities listed cannot be turned in.   Please initial next to the activity name so that I know the activity was completed if needed.  The spelling test will also be on Friday, September 16th.

English Language Arts:  We'll be focusing on writing (writer's workshop) and reading (reader's workshop) throughout the school year. The genre of fairy tales will be discussed this week. In writer's workshop, we will be editing our current writing.
