Miss Pellin's Post
January 16th to January 20th

Remember that Monday, January 16th is Martin Luther King's Birthday. There will be no school, please plan accordingly.

Our two class winners of the Spelling Bee will compete in the 3rd grade Spelling Bee on Thursday, January 19  against the other third grade class winners. Good luck Agne and Oliver!

Students will take the math MAP (Measure of Progress) test on Wednesday, January 18th.  Please make sure students sleep well before the test and eat a good breakfast.

Students can earn a free Six Flags ticket if they read for 6 hours.  Students need to fill out the Six Flags Read to Succed worksheet in order to earn the ticket.  Many students already turned this in.  If your child has not turned it in and would like to earn a free ticket, they need to turn it in by February 1st

The Third Week of 2012 at School:
Science: We will continue the study of chapter 9. Students will study weather in lesson 3.  Look for a study guide to come home this week.  Students will be tested in the week of January 23rd.

Social Studies: We will focus on science this week.

Math: We will continue the study of measurement in chapter 20.  There will be a test on chapter 20 on Friday, January 20th.  Students received a study guide today, Friday, January 13th.   Students will also have a multiplication "x10" test on Friday, January 20th.  This test will only include multiplication problems by 10.  It will not have facts from previous weeks.  Students will need to complete 26 problems in two and half minutes.  They will receive a study guide on Tuesday, January 17th.

Spelling: This week students will be tested on Lesson #13. We will pre-test on Tuesday and assign the corresponding homework.  The homework will be due on Friday and we will have the test that day also!

Reading: This week we will be targeting the reading strategy of questioning while reading various books in class.  As always, we will also continue to review and refine our work with the other strategies that we have already introduced, but will highlight questioning this week.
