Miss Pellin's Post
January 10th to January 14th

Remember that Monday, January 17th is Martin Luther King's birthday. There will be no school, please plan accordingly.

Students received words this past week for a school spelling bee. It is up to the students whether they would like to prepare for this. We will have one practice spelling bee in class early next week. The final class spelling bee will be on Thursday, January 13th. The two winners will be selected to represent our class in the 3rd grade spelling bee on Wednesday, January 19th.
The Eighteenth Week at School:
Science: We will continue the study of matter in chapter 11.  Students will learn about the states of matter.

Spelling: Due to MAPs testing this week, we are working on synonym practice during spelling. We will not have a test this week or spelling homework. We will be working on a unit of "snowy synonyms." We will be back to working on Lesson #13 the following week.

Reading: We will continue to work on the reading strategies of monitoring and clarifying what we read as well as distinguishing facts and opinions while concluding our work with the story Nights of the Pufflings or starting a novel study. We will also be reviewing various other reading strategies to comprehend our reading materials.

English: Students will complete the final copy of their narrative paper.  Then we will begin the study of verbs.
