The Eighth Week of 2009 at School:
Home Room

Science: We will continue our space unit! Students will learn about the inner and outer planets.

Social Studies: We will continue to study Egypt. Students will learn about the Egyptain pyramids.

Language Arts
Spelling: There will not be Spelling this week. Instead we will focus on prefixes and suffixes.

Reading: Our class will be reading several stories and work on reading comprehension. Students will write extended responses when answering questions from the stories. When writing an extended response it is important to answer a question about the text using proof from the text and then to add your own insights.

English: Students will write an expository. The prompt this week will ask students "How can you stay healthy?" Students will also learn about prefixes and suffixes. Students will be quizzed on what they have learned on Friday, February 26th.

Math: In order to prepare for the ISAT tests, we will be bouncing around the textbook a bit more than usual. We have been and will continue to study area, perimeter, and volume. We will also work on t-charts and probability. The material that we are covering will be tested on the ISAT tests. Some of this material will also be tested in class, after the ISAT testing. Some of the material will not be tested with a formal classroom "chapter test."

Students will take a mixed mad minute multiplication test on Friday, February 26th. Students will take practice mixed multiplication tests each day leading up to the test. If a student passes (gets fewer than one wrong) before the final test day, then they pass the test and do not need to continue taking mixed multiplication tests. Students need to complete 40 problems in 5 minutes!

Things to Remember:
Friday 2/26: There will be a prefix/suffix quiz. There will be a mixed multiplication test.
Monday 3/1: This is Casmir Pulaski Day. There will be no school.
