Miss Pellin's Post
February 15th through February 19th

Remember that Monday, February 15th is Presidents' Day! There will be no school. Do you know the correct spelling of this holiday? Since Presidents Day is not the official name of the federal holiday, there is no one way to spell it. Both Presidents Day and Presidents' Day are common, and both are considered correct by dictionaries!

Thank you to all the parents who are helping with the Valentine's Day Party! The students are very excited and cannot wait for it!

The Seventh Week of 2010 at School:
Science: We will continue to learn about the sun and the solar system.

Students can use their new Science textbook online from the website http://www.thinkcentral.com/to help understand the subject. In order to access the Science textbook at home go to the same website. The user name is your parent connect number. The password is ccsd66.

Social Studies: We will continue to study the history and culture of ancient Egypt. We will have an Egypt vocabulary quiz on Friday, February 19th. Students made vocabulary cards to help them study for the quiz. The cards are in their Social Studies folder in their binder.

Math: We will study chapter 15. Chapter 15 continues the study of geometry. Students will take a mixed mad minute multiplication test on Friday, February 26th. Starting on Tuesday, February 16th students will take practice mixed multiplication tests each day leading up to the test. If a student passes (gets fewer than one wrong) before the final test day, then they pass the test and do not need to continue taking mixed multiplication tests. Students need to complete 40 problems in 5 minutes!

Spelling: There will be a "list #22" Spelling test on Friday, February 19th.

Reading: We will finish reading the story Ramona Quimby, Age 8. We will read several other stories and answer comprehension questions. Students will also work on answering extended response questions asked at the end of each story.

English: We will continue our unit on expository writing.

The month of February was spelled differently in ancient England.
