Miss Pellin's Post
January 11th to January 15th

Remember that Monday, January 18th is Martin Luther King's Birthday. There will be no school, please plan accordingly.

This week we will be taking the Iowa Basics Tests. These are standardized tests that will assess students in the subjects of reading, vocabulary, math problem solving, math computation, word usage, word expression, math estimation, spelling, capitalization, and punctuation. Please make sure students get to bed early, eat a healthy breakfast in the morning, and bring a healthy snack to school each day this week.

Students received words before the winter break for a school spelling bee. It is up to the students whether they would like to prepare for this. We will have one practice spelling bee in class next week. The final class spelling bee will be on Friday, January 15th. Our class winner will be selected to represent our class in the 3rd grade spelling bee on Friday, January 22nd.

An informational sheet was sent home on Thursday, January 7th about Cosmic Capers. This is an "in class" field trip where students will make models of eclipses and craters on the moon. They will even get to taste astronaut ice cream. Please send $6.50 to school with your child by Friday, January 15th.

The Second Week of 2010 at School:
