Mrs. Burland's & Mrs. Hlavacek's Third Grade News
September 6, 2019

It was great to meet with so many parents on Curriculum Night.  Your children were excited to grade your tests and read your letters!  If you were unable to attend, please email me and I can send you a copy of my presentation.

Please be sure to check and sign your child's assignment notebook every night.  Help them create a responsible and independent routine at home of unpacking their binder after school, emptying out the "Keep at Home" section, and checking the homework folder and assignment notebook for homework.

Week of 9/9-9/13:
Social Science:  There will be a Directions Quiz on 9/10. A study guide went home on 9/5.  We made a Compass Rose and studied the cardinal directions: North, South, East, and West and the intermediate directions: Northeast, Northwest, Southeast, and Southwest.

Spelling:  We will start the week of the 16th. Your child will work on homework using a Spelling Menu. The first test will be 9/27.

English Language Arts: We'll continue to focus on various reading skills using fun literature. This week our books will be Zoom. Pigsty, The Lost and Found, and Recess Queen. The skills studied will be inferencing, compare and contrast, and character analysis.

Reading:  Your child was given a September reading log.  Your child needs to read 20 minutes a day for 20 days to receive full credit.  Please sign and return it at the end of the month.

Mrs. Hlavacek's Math Class: In math, we are working on Unit 1, Multiplicative Thinking. We are working multiplication and division word problems. We have a Student Book workbook. This coming week we will get a Home Connections workbook. There will be homework most nights.
