The Upcoming Week at School:
Reading: This week students will finish their country chapter books. They are  due on Wednesday, March 6th. This week we will also focus on the reading skill main idea and detail. Students should turn in their February reading logs on Monday, March 4th, if they have not already done so. They will receive a March reading log.

Culture Week: Please make sure to look at the letter that was sent home about Culture Week! In a nutshell, this is what is expected from each student:

1. Pick any 3 chapters and practice reading them. Students will read these to the class.
2. Make something that shows your connection to the country (slide, poster, index card, video).
3. Bring in 2 items that represent your country (ie: music, food, instrument, pictures, book, souvenirs, flag photo, etc.)

I look forward to hearing each student present on their assigned date (3/11, 3/12, 3/13, 3/14, or 3/15). Students will receive a paper copy of their research paper on Wednesday, March 6th, when the paper is due that they can use to help practice. For the time being, they can practice reading their paper from their Chromebook.

Spelling:  We will be taking a short break from spelling for the next 2 weeks and will focus on prefixes and suffixes!

Math:  We will study area and perimeter on complex shapes.  This week we will finish the study of unit 5 on Geometry and Measurement. Look for a study guide to come home this week. We will have a divide by 10 and 11 timed test on Thursday, January 7th.  They will have two minutes to complete 26 problems.

Social Science: We will finish our Balanced Forces science curriculum. We are in the final chapter of the unit, chapter 5. It is titled, "Why does the train change from floating to falling?" In social studies, we will begin the study of Chicago.

Things to Remember:
Monday 3/4: Students should turn in their February reading logs.
Wednesday 3/6: The country chapter books are due.
Thursday 3/7: There will be a divide by 10 and 11 test.
