Mrs. Burland's Post
January 7th to January 11th

Thank you so much for the very generous gifts! I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday! We cleaned out our binders. Please make sure students empty their "Keep at Home" folder before returning to school. Also, I have noticed supplies have started to dwindle. Please ask your child what he/she needs before we start the new year together! School will resume on Monday, January 8th

We had a fun filled week leading up to winter break. The class enjoyed the movie, Elf, and had a great time bowling at Brunswick Zone!

The Upcoming Week at School:
Social Science: We will continue our Amplify curriculum! Students will learn more about magnets. They will explore which metals the magnet attracts and repels.

Math:   When we return from break, students will begin Unit 4, Module 1 on place value and rounding. Students will also take a divide by 2 division test on Thursday, January 10th. The division tests look very similar to the multiplication tests. Students will have two minutes to complete 26 problems and it will be worth 10 points.

Spelling:  Students will receive a new spelling list and should complete three activities using the new spelling menu.  The test will be on Friday, January 18th.  The activities will also be due on Friday, January 18th.

ELA: Students will begin the week by writing a paragraph about their New Year's Resolution. We will continue our second unit on culture and traditions. Students will read about tooth traditions around the world when they read, Throw Your Tooth on the Roof. They will then write about their tradition when they lose a tooth. Next, we will read, What if You Had Animal Teeth? Students will decide which type of animal teeth they would choose and write a persuasive paragraph using text evidence about why the animal teeth they chose are the best! We will continue Daily 4 and learn more about verbs!

December Reading Logs will be due on Monday, January 7th.  A January reading log was sent home on Friday.

Things to Remember:
Monday 1/7:  December Reading Logs are due.
Thursday 1/10: There will be a divide by 2 test.

Friday 1/18:  There will be a spelling test and 3 activities are due.
