Mrs. Burland's Post
January 22nd to January 26th

I want to congratulate Robert (winner) and Lydia (runner up) for representing our class for the third grade spelling bee. I was proud of every student's efforts and it warmed my heart how all students cheered on their classmates!

Today marks halfway through Trimester 2. I cannot believe how fast time is flying! It is a great time to check your child's grades.

Upcoming Week at School:
Social Science:  This week students will take a virtual tour of Ellis Island and listen to stories from immigrants who made the journey to America! Then we will begin chapter 3, lesson 4 on immigrants beginning a new life in America.

Math:  :  We will finish unit 4 on Addition, Subtraction & Measurement.  The unit 4 study guide is due on Friday, January 26th. The unit 4 test will be on Monday, January 29th. We will then begin unit 5 on Geometry & Measurement. We  will have a divide by 7 timed test on Wednesday, January 24th

ELA:  This past week, we read the story Matchbox Diaries about an immigrant who could not write, so he kept a diary by placing important items in matchboxes. Each student should bring in an item that represents an important event in their life. This item should be small enough to fit in a matchbox. We will also continue our unit on traditions.  Next week, students will begin taking notes for an expository writing piece on a country where their family/ancestors have immigrated from. This weekend students should be deciding which country they would like to choose.

Things to Remember:
Monday 1/22:  Students should bring in matchbox item.  Also, students need to have picked a country their family/ancestors have immigrated from, in order to begin a research writing project. Please make sure to discuss this with your child.
Wednesday 1/24:  There will be a divide by 7 test.
Friday 1/26:  The math unit 4 study guide is due.

Monday 1/29: There will be a math unit 4 test.
