Mrs. Burland's Post
January 8th to January 12th

Thank you so much for the very generous gifts! I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday! School will resume on Monday, January 8th

We had a fun filled week leading up to winter break. The class had a great time bowling at Brunswick Zone and enjoyed the movie, Wonder

They also came up with ways to make a Grinch Grin!

The Upcoming Week at School:
Social Science: We will focus on social studies. Students will read Chapter 3, lesson 1 in our Social Studies textbook titled, Moving to a New Community. They will then read lesson 2 titled, Learning New Customs

Also, we will have an in-school field trip on Tuesday, January 9th that we like to call "Matter, Matters." Scientists from High Touch, High Tech will be coming in to review the states of matter while conducting experiments.

Math:   When we return from break, students will  finish the study of unit 4, module 1 on place value and addition strategies. Then they will review regrouping with subtraction standard algorithm and will also learn other subtraction strategies in module 2. Students will also take a divide by 5 test on Wednesday, January 9th.

Spelling:  Students will receive a new spelling list and should complete three activities using the new spelling menu.  The test will be on Friday, January 19th.  The activities will also be due on Friday, January 19th.

ELA: Students will begin the week by writing a paragraph about their New Year's Resolution. We will continue our second unit on culture and traditions. Students will read about tooth traditions around the world when they read, Throw Your Tooth on the Roof. They will then write about their tradition when they lose a tooth. Next, we will read, What if You Had Animal Teeth? Students will decide which type of animal teeth they would choose and write a persuasive paragraph using text evidence about why the animal teeth they chose are the best! We will continue Daily 4 and learn more about verbs!

December Reading Logs will be due on Monday, January 8th.  A January reading log was sent home on Thursday.
