Mrs. Burland's Bulletin
October 23rd - October 27th

The class is looking forward to attending our Downers Grove field trip (11/2), which includes a tour of historical sites, the Downers Grove History Museum, and Giordano's pizza (optional). Below is a picture of one of the sites we will stop, Pierce Downer's House! 

Halloween:

1. Our party will take place on Tuesday, October 31st. The room party will go from 1:00-1:50 p.m. Our Prairieview parade will begin at 1:55 p.m.

2. We only have 15 minutes for costume changes. Please make sure your child can change into his/her costume easily and by themselves. If the costume can be worn over their clothes, then both the time to change and the chances of losing any clothes is minimized.

3. If the costume involves make up, please apply it before your child comes to school. If you send your child in with make up, then your child has to be able to apply it themselves. 

4. Please do not send any weapons (guns, swords, etc.) as part of the costume. Save those for trick-or-treating.

5. We will not have time to change back into our clothes for dismissal. Your child will wear their costume home.

Fall Conferences are geared toward meeting with students' homeroom teacher.  I look forward to meeting with you on Monday (10/23), Tuesday (10/24), and Wednesday (10/25). Winter Conferences will be geared toward meeting with math teachers. 

The Upcoming Week at School:

Social Science: We will continue our study of the History of Downers Grove. We will complete our study this week. Look for a study guide to come home. There will be a test in the week of 10/30. 

Spelling:  We will continue our Words Their Way program. Students will be given their list of words along with a homework sheet with a list of activities. Students should complete 3 activities from their homework sheet and turn them in on Thursday, October 26th.  The spelling test will also be on Thursday, October 26th. We will not have school on Friday, October 27th.

ELA: We will continue our descriptive writing with a persuasive flare. The students are trying to convince a movie director to buy their haunted house! We will also work on identifying cause and effect with good fit articles during Daily 4. 

Math: We will continue the study of unit 2, module 3 on multiplication stories and strategies.  Then we will work on unit 2, module 4 on early division and remainders. They will take a multiplication by 8 test on Wednesday, October 25th. 

Things to Remember:

Monday 10/26: Teachers will be holding conferences with parents from their homeroom.
Tuesday 10/27: Teachers will be holding conferences with parents from their homeroom.

Wednesday 10/25: There will be a multiplication by 8 test. Teachers will be holding conferences with parents from their homeroom.
Thursday 10/26: There will be a spelling test and the 3 activities are due.
Friday 10/27: No School
