Miss Pellin's Post
May 9th to May 13th

Happy Mother's Day!!  I hope everyone has a great Sunday!

On Thursday, May 12th, the third grade will be visiting the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago! Students should bring a sack lunch, wear comfortable shoes, and dress appropriately for the weather.

Please note that Friday, May 13th is an early dismissal day.  Students will be dismissed at 11:30 a.m.

Classroom Library Volunteer: Are there parents who would be interested in helping me out by classifying my library? This will help students find good fit books based on their letter for Fountas and Pinnell. I'd like a parent to find the "F & P" level for each book and mark them accordingly. If you could give up a little of your time, maybe one morning or afternoon a week, I would greatly appreciate it! Email me if you are interested. You would be trained. :) Thank you to Mrs. Harvat for already leveling some of the books in our classroom library!

The Thirty-Sixth Week at School:

Science: We will continue the study of ecosystems in chapter 4. Students will study chapter 4, lesson 2 on types of ecosystems. Also, students should bring a rock and box by Wednesday, May 11th. Students will make a pet rock and an ecosystem for the animal they choose.

Social Studies: We will focus on science.

Spelling:  Students already have a spelling list and 6 activities sheet. The 6 activities will be due on Friday, May 13th.  They will take their test on Friday, May 13th, as well.

ELA:  We will write letters to our second grade pen pals! In addition, students will complete RAZ kids each day. During Daily 5, I will give each student a short quiz  after reading a good fit passage from RAZ kids. Students will also read good fit articles and work on identifying the main idea and supporting details. In addition students will work on writing a narrative and have the choice to write a prequel or sequel to The One and Only Ivan.

Math:   There will be a unit 6 test on Monday, May 9th. Then we will begin unit 7 on Reviewing & Extending Fractions, Decimals & Multi-Digit Multiplication. Students should continue to complete Xtramath each night to practice their math facts.

Things to Remember:
Monday 5/9: There will be a unit 6 math test.
