January 25th to January 29th



Today marks the halfway point of trimester 2.  Please check your child's grades online.  

Six Flags’ Read to Succeed logs are due on Monday, February 1st.

Matter Presentation:  We are fortunate to invite scientists from "High Touch-High Tech to Prairieview.  They will lead students through many experiments involving the different states of matter on Friday, January 29th. 

The Twenty-second Week at School:
Science: We will continue the study of matter in chapter 11, lesson 2.  We will discuss states of matter.  

Social Studies:  This week we will focus on science.  

Math:  We will begin unit 4, module 2 on the standard subtraction algorithm.  Students will have a divide by 4 timed test on Tuesday, January 26th.  They will have two and a half minutes to complete 26 problems.   Students who pass on Tuesday, January 26th will receive the full amount of points (13/13).  If students don't pass the test on the first day, they will take the test the next day and receive 12/13 if they pass.  Students will continue taking the test each day until they pass and one point will be taken off each day.  

Spelling:  Students will continue studying their spelling list and should complete six activities using the spelling menu.  The test will be on Friday, January 29th.  The activities will also be due on Friday, January 29th.  

ELA: We will continue our unit on traditions. This week we will read Throw Your Tooth on the Roof by Selby B. Beeler and compare and contrast different countries tooth traditions.  In addition we will compare and contrast good fit articles and/or books during Daily 5 stations.  

Students will read a new mystery book and be asked to complete various tasks and graphic organizers during our Daily 5 stations.  


Things to Remember:
Tuesday 1/26:  There will be a divide by 4 test.
Friday 1/29:  There will be a spelling test and the 6 activities are due.  Also, we will have our Matter, Matters Presentation.
