Miss Pellin's Post
October 6th - October 10th

Halloween:

The Halloween parade and party will be on Friday, October 31st.
Please keep in mind the following guidelines when helping your child pick out a Halloween costume:

1. We only have 15 minutes for costume changes. Please make sure your child can change into his/her costume easily and by themselves. If the costume can be worn over their clothes, then both the time to change and the chances of losing any clothes is minimized.

2. If the costume involves make up, please apply it before your child comes to school. If you send your child in with make up, then your child has to be able to apply it themselves.

3. Please do not send any weapons (guns, swords, etc.) as part of the costume. Save those for trick-or-treating.

4. We will not have time to change back into our clothes for dismissal. Your child will wear their costume home.

There will be an early dismissal on Friday, October 10th.  Students will be dismissed at 11:00 a.m.  Please plan accordingly.

I sent home a field trip permission slip.  Please send back with your child by October 8th.

Picture Day:  A sheet was sent home regarding picture day.  It will be on October 8th. Our class will get their picture taken before P.E. first thing in the morning.

The Seventh Week of 2014 at School:

Science: There will be a chapter 4 test on Wednesday, October 8th.  Then we will begin the study of the water cycle in chapter 9.

Social Studies: We will continue the study of the hemispheres.

Spelling: This week in spelling we will work on List 7.  There will be a pretest on Monday, October 6th.  The final test will be on Friday, October 10th.

Reading: This week we will continue our Daily 5 program of guided reading groups, listen to reading, word work, work on writing, and read to self.  Students will continue reading
The One and Only Ivan.  We will also begin the story Two Days in May and work on sequence of events.  In addition, we will continue studying a word or two a day.  On Thursday students will be tested on the four words we will have studied Monday-Wednesday.

English: Students will work on descriptive writing by describing a mystery object using their five senses.  Then students will work on descriptive writing with a persuasive flare as they prepare to write a haunted house story.  The students will try to convince others to buy their haunted house!

Math: We will continue the study of topic 2.  Students will work on adding and subtracting rounded numbers.

I am sure you have heard your child mention Mrs. Forsman.  She is another teacher in our math classroom!  If you would like to learn more information about her, please visit her blog at http://taniaforsman.blogspot.com/.
