December 10th to December 14th

Our class will go on a bowling field trip on Monday, December 17th. You can send your child with money if they would like to buy a snack at the bowling alley. Please send your child with a sack lunch on this day.

On Friday, December 21st, the third grade students with watch the movie Polar Express at the Tivoli.  A permission slip was sent home.  Please send this permission slip back by Friday, December 14th.  

The District PTO is hosting a Barnes and Noble fundraising book fair event on Tuesday, December 11th from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the Bolingbrook Promenade. This is no ordinary book fair! The event will include complimentary hot chocolate and cupcakes with a decorating table for the students. There will be a bookmark creation station complete with volunteers monitoring children so that parents can shop for holiday items and visit the complimentary gift wrapping station to hide the presents!  I hope to see you there!

The Sixteenth Week of 2012 at School:

Science: Students will have a chapter 4 test on Monday, December 10th.  We will then begin the study of matter in chapter 11.     

Social Studies: We continue the study of modern day Downers Grove.

Math: Students will be tested on graphs in chapter 6 on Tuesday, December 11th.  We will then begin the study of measurement in chapter 20.  This week students will study multiplying by 4. There will be a multiplication quiz on Friday, December 14th.  The multiplication quiz will be on some of the facts students have learned so far and the following new facts:

4 X 5 = 20
4 X 6 = 24
4 X 7 = 28
4 X 8 = 32
4 X 9 = 36

Spelling: 

Monday:  Pretest on lesson 12

Homework - Cursive worksheet

Tuesday:  Homework - Non challenge ABC order

Challenge - Activity 1 

Wednesday: Homework - Non challenge - Write each word in a sentence.

Challenge - Activity 2

Friday:  Post test on lesson 12

Reading:  We will focus on character, setting, and plot.  We will also work on the reading strategy of visualizing. We will use the story Dogzilla as well as other novels and text as we apply these skills. Students will receive vocabulary words on Monday, December 10th.  There will be a vocabulary test and comprehension check on Thursday, December 13th.   At the end of the week students will complete an activity "Santa Cause" which will allow students to come up with funny situations Santa gets into showing cause and effect.  

English: We will continue the study of verbs in unit 3.

Monday 12/10:  There will be a chapter 4 science test.

Tuesday 12/11: There will be a chapter 6 math test.  There will be a Barnes and Noble fundraising event.

Thursday 12/13: There will be a vocabulary test and a comprehension check.

Friday 12/16: We will have a spelling test and a multiplication test. 

Monday 12/17: We will go bowling.

Friday 12/21:  We will go to the Tivoli.
