September 10th- September 14th


This week in social studies the class went on a scavenger hunt around the school using their cardinal directions.  Each student did a great job finding their 

Our class will be taking the reading MAP test on Wednesday, September 12.

Also, please check your child's planner everyday this quarter.  I'm seeing a lot of signatures - thank you!


The Third Week of School:

Science:  We will be working in chapter 9 on the water cycle.  On Thursday, there will be an open book/open note graded review.  We will take this review together so I can model how to use the book to find answers.

Social Studies: We will focus on science. 

Math: We will finish the study of chapter 1.  There will be a chapter 1 test on Friday, September 14.  Students received a study guide today (Friday, September 7th).  In addition to lessons 1-5 on the study guide, students will be tested on lesson 6 (problem solving using logical reasoning).  I will have students add this to their study guide on Monday.  On Tuesday, September 18th students will be tested on their basic math addition facts. Students will need to complete 40 addition problems (adding numbers ranging from 1 to 10) in 2 minutes. I changed the date of the addition test due to the chapter 1 test taking place on Friday.

Spelling: This week in spelling we will work on Lesson 3. This lesson will focus on words with more short vowels. 


Monday - list 3 pretest  
Monday -   Everyone completes cursive worksheet
Tuesday  -  The challenge completes activity 1 of their choice;
                  Non-challenge completes ABC order 
Wednesday - Challenge completes activity 2 of their choice 
                     Non-challenge completes workbook pages 38 and 39 
Friday - Final test

Reading: Next week we will continue to teach the students how to utilize the essential reading strategies. In our classes we will demonstrate how the application of these strategies will maximize student comprehension of a range of literary materials.

English: This week we will continue to work on unit 1.  We will discuss subjects and predicates.  We will also continue to work on Daily Oral Language (D.O.L.).  During D.O.L. students edit sentences.  There will be a D.O.L. quiz on Thursday, September 13th.  A study guide came home today (September 7th).


Things to Remember:
Monday 9/10: There will be a spelling pretest.
Wednesday 9/12:  Students will take the reading MAP test.
Thursday 9/13:  There will be a D.O.L. quiz. 
Friday 9/14:  There will be a chapter 1 math test. There will be a spelling test. 

Tuesday 9/18:  There will be an addition fact test.
