Please join us for our spring Open House on Thursday, April 12th from 6:30 - 8:00.  Third grade's Open House theme is Chicago, so come wearing your favorite Chicago team's apparel!  There will also be a book fair and an ice cream social.  I look forward to seeing each of you!

The Thirteenth Week of 2012 at School:

Science: As we explore the planets in our solar system, students will be gathering information about each to display in a stand-up foldable project with a partner. One student will be responsible for the inner planets; the other, for the outer planets. Information on our solar system is in chapter 10: lesson 3.

Social Studies: Our class has been "hired" by a local travel agency in need of Chicago brochures. Each student will be designing a brochure which will attract visitors to Chicago. They are using their packets and books to choose topics to include in their brochure. Each page of the brochure will include two topics. The topics should each have 2-4 details written in complete sentences. Pictures could either be drawn or printed off the Internet. Class time will be provided, however, students who don't choose to use their time wisely will end up taking this project home to be finished. Brochures are due on Thursday, April 12th.

Spelling: The focus on lesson 21 is the VCCV (vowel, consonant, consonant, vowel) pattern. The test will be given on Friday, 4/13 when all of the homework is due.  This test will be done in cursive.

Reading: Students will be tested on four new vocabulary words which they are in the process of choosing from their good-fit-books on Tuesday, April 17th. The tests will be given in a verbal fashion which will truly test each student's understanding of the word they've chosen.  For this test students will be asked to give the definition, an antonym/non-example, a synonym, and use the word in a sentence.

English: We are continuing Unit 5 on capitalization and punctuation this week, as well as, practicing our expository writing skills. The autobiographies we have been writing and editing will be up for Open House for you to enjoy. Your job is to decide which autobiography was written by your child.

Math:  We will study decimals in chapter 19.  Look for a study guide to come home.  There will be a chapter 19 test in the week of April 23rd.

There will be a test on division by 8's on Friday, April 13th.
